View Full Version : Dyno day feeler thread
DoubleLP 02-12-2008, 02:39 PM Since we are organizing a mega meet for the western provinces, the idea of a dyno day has popped up as well (Thanks sidejam!!)
So who would be interested in doing a seperate dyno day, one in Calgary for the southern half of the province, and one in Edmonton for the northern half of the province??
Post up!!
BlackSS/SC 02-12-2008, 02:41 PM This is what I'm looking for!
DoubleLP 02-12-2008, 02:42 PM We just have to find a dyno(s) that can accomodate us!
MLeclair 02-12-2008, 03:16 PM i'm down for it.
BlackSS/SC 02-12-2008, 04:10 PM We just have to find a dyno(s) that can accomodate us!
I'm pretty new to AB so I dunno of any.
sidejam 02-12-2008, 05:36 PM Ummm... I'm up for it! :D
DoubleLP 02-12-2008, 06:29 PM Excellent!
BlackSS/SC 02-12-2008, 06:35 PM So does anyone have any idea where this meet would be at?
DoubleLP 02-12-2008, 06:40 PM Nope! :)
tREBs 02-12-2008, 06:51 PM definatley interested, i wanted to dyno my car this year regardless
DoubleLP 02-12-2008, 06:52 PM Yeah me too!! I am curious as to what my numbers are.
Alpine_Canada 02-12-2008, 06:54 PM Good idea on the dyno day. Hopefully my car is fixed by then.
DoubleLP 02-12-2008, 06:55 PM So do we! :)
sidejam 02-12-2008, 06:57 PM If others in Calgary/Red Deer are interested, I'd be up to going to Edmonton on a Friday. I did that once with Pascale and a bunch of other SRT-4's. I guess it really depends on how many people are interested. From what I've found, for a shop to set aside a dyno for a group, they would need a minimum of at least 10 participants.
Anyone know any good shops in either city?
A bit off topic, but just goes to show how well some meets can be organized. I can recall one event where a bunch of us from different VW clubs in Montreal, Kingston, Ottawa, Belleville were going to an event in Toronto. We set a rough time to meet and kept in contact by cell phone. The cars to be joining the caravan would park along the on ramp of the highway meeting point. When the rest got close, the newcomers would merge in with the pack. At each location, about 10-15 cars would join in. (Except Bellevile where only 3 joined in.) After the last group had merged, we had a convoy of about 50 VW's going down the 401 to Toronto. It was pretty cool to watch that many cars merging in together and it made for some great videos too! :)
Before you laugh at the VW guys, check out this pic:

How cool is that pic??? :)
DoubleLP 02-12-2008, 06:59 PM Pretty sweet pic! I knew the 4th Ave flyover was good for something. :)
an0malous 02-12-2008, 06:59 PM yeah. city pics suck :) nice one sidejam
well apex is closed down now (the one you guys went to at the april meet)
so were gonna have to find a new spot in ed.
i hear good things about techmotions dyno in cowtown for the southern guys.
BlackSS/SC 02-12-2008, 07:11 PM Apex closed for good?
an0malous 02-12-2008, 07:13 PM yerp bankrupt....nasty business.

Damn, quite the place then eh? So is there other dynos in Edmonton?
tkaugh29 02-12-2008, 07:18 PM there are a few places in calgary that can do it. and im sure we can book a day, and that way we could even get a discount price if we get 10 or so ppl
DoubleLP 02-12-2008, 07:19 PM Discounts are good!
BlackSS/SC 02-12-2008, 07:21 PM So there isn't a dyno in Edmonton anymore?
tkaugh29 02-12-2008, 07:22 PM theres prolly at least 1 in edmonton. i think there are two in calgary. doesnt speedtech or whatever its called have one? and some other place does too.
DoubleLP 02-12-2008, 07:23 PM As far as I know Speedtech does not have one.
BlackSS/SC 02-12-2008, 07:24 PM Damn why do I have to life so damn far away!!!!!
DoubleLP 02-12-2008, 07:24 PM I am in the same boat bro! At least you have towns around where you live......Fort Mac has.......NOTHING. :)
Alpine_Canada 02-12-2008, 07:25 PM What's everyone's opinion on Davenport in Calgary? They have a dyno. On a side note, my dad just did a complete rebuild on his Camaro from there and seemed pretty happy.
tREBs 02-12-2008, 07:26 PM ^^^ ive heard great things about davenport but be prepared to pay $$$.....
BlackSS/SC 02-12-2008, 07:28 PM I am in the same boat bro! At least you have towns around where you live......Fort Mac has.......NOTHING. :)
We have towns? I don't know of any that have anything in them. We don't have a whole lot here. Tuner cars are considered a joke here lol.
outtamymind 02-12-2008, 07:29 PM ya davenport is good but expensive. we deal with a bunch of the cars they have built.
Alpine_Canada 02-12-2008, 07:29 PM ^^^ ive heard great things about davenport but be prepared to pay $$$.....
Haha. Yup. That camaro had every edelbrock part out of the catalogue (except the carb) and some one-off stuff. Watch out for a 450whp 85 Camaro cruising the streets soon. That's right....I said 85.
an0malous 02-12-2008, 07:29 PM So there isn't a dyno in Edmonton anymore?
theres lots.
DoubleLP 02-12-2008, 07:30 PM We have towns? I don't know of any that have anything in them. We don't have a whole lot here. Tuner cars are considered a joke here lol.
It is the same here. Fort Mac is TRUCK town.
supa_chgd_07 02-12-2008, 07:59 PM Good idea on the dyno day. Hopefully my car is fixed by then.
even if your car is fixed by then, would it even turn the drums? oh snap!
Alpine_Canada 02-12-2008, 08:07 PM even if your car is fixed by then, would it even turn the drums? oh snap!
We will see who's laughing when I keep your wideband and get that stage kit.
supa_chgd_07 02-12-2008, 08:08 PM We will see who's laughing when I keep your wideband and get that stage kit.

DoubleLP 02-12-2008, 08:09 PM Whoa! Lol
an0malous 02-12-2008, 08:16 PM Edmonton Dynos.
Mustangs:
GCL diesel
Campbell automotive
sub-racing performance
Dynojets:

Daves Diesel (atcheson)
anyone know of any others?
Pickles 02-12-2008, 08:34 PM ^^^ ive heard great things about davenport but be prepared to pay $$$.....
wtf. Where did you hear that davenport is good? All I've ever gotten when calling there is nasty attitude like they don't want any business...
Alpine_Canada 02-12-2008, 08:38 PM wtf. Where did you hear that davenport is good? All I've ever gotten when calling there is nasty attitude like they don't want any business...
Ya, that's why i asked what people think. I've heard a wide variety of mixed reviews from people.
Pickles 02-12-2008, 08:39 PM As far as I know Speedtech does not have one.
No, speedtech doesn't have one. THey don't do auto, They just sell parts to their ricer friends. AnOTHer place that doesn't seem to sound like they want any business when you call them...
Ya, that's why i asked what people think. I've heard a wide variety of mixed reviews from people.
I'm not sayin I know, I just know that if I got a different response from them when calling about certain stuff, they would be several hundred dollars richer now...
BlackSS/SC 02-12-2008, 08:46 PM There is a dyno here in GP at OK Tire but no one knows how to run it lol. The last guy that ran it quit because all the guys who dynoed on it bitched him out and said he didn't know what he was doing. I don't know if it's true or now, probably just guys who are pissed about there numbers. Just thought it was funny.
But ya, GP is a truck town too. If it ain't diesel then it's junk lol

Let me give you an example. I wanted to get my remote start installed by them in the Cobalt originally. I made a booking with them and told them I was coming from out of town etc. No problem they said.
So I dropped the car off to them and started walking to the C-train which is at least 15 blocks away from them. Well by the time I got to the C-train they phoned me to tell me that they would not be able to do my car that day because the Honda dealership had a couple of cars that had to be done.
Needless to say I lost it when I went back to pick up my car. And I will NEVER take my car their to have work done or tell anyone else to do so.
BlackSS/SC 02-12-2008, 08:47 PM ^^Damn, gotta hate when that happens!!

Best part is pulling on someone who thinks that their truck is faster then my car. :)
BlackSS/SC 02-12-2008, 08:49 PM Best part is pulling on someone who thinks that their truck is faster then my car. :)
Ya I like that part too. Just sitting at a stop like and having a guy in a big liffed truck laughing at the car, then smoke them. But those diesels are no joke lol. They can really pack a punch.
DoubleLP 02-12-2008, 08:51 PM Oh yeah for sure. There are some up here running 600+ hp and some god awful amount of tourque.
an0malous 02-12-2008, 08:51 PM ooo i love diesels who are "chipped"
i swear some of those chipped guys think it adds 500hp
if they really knew what those chips are doing they'd shit themselves.
DoubleLP 02-12-2008, 08:53 PM My Dad has one on his Duramax but it is used a lot for towing so he only did the Stage I upgrade with the chip to help with towing the big 5th wheel trailer, and it made a big difference. We can drive it down the highway at 120 and have no problems with passing or going up hills.
an0malous 02-12-2008, 08:56 PM yup i have no doubt they make a difference.
but so do canned tunes for the cobalt.......*cough*
DoubleLP 02-12-2008, 08:59 PM Lol :)
tkaugh29 02-12-2008, 10:37 PM chips are proven to add around 50-80HP on diesel trucks arent they?
and yah some diesel trucks are fucking quick.
MLeclair 02-12-2008, 11:46 PM All u guys talk about is crap! LOL Jesus christ,
Last year we went together to a mustang dyno in calgary up on Mcknight, on 12th st.
His name is Matt, we had about 6 cars there. He was great, everything went good.
I remember paying like 60$ for three pulls. Man my car is going to be loud. Anyways
can anyone remember the name. But I have the owner on msn. I"ll ask him if hes
interested in hosting a dyno day for the balts. Let me know, hes not to busy around this
time of the year. A saturday would be perfect. But seriously that dyno shop is great.
People there rock and i had a great time. Even tho i pulled the same HP as lary when i
had the smaller pully...
DoubleLP 02-12-2008, 11:51 PM Set it up bro!!
I would be up for that!
Pickles 02-13-2008, 12:00 AM Set it up bro!!
I would be up for that!
I'm also looking into another shop with a dyno. Albeit, its a dynojet, but it's alot less busy I believe, and may be cheaper.
Let me know what we can get into that place for, and I'll post when I find out about this place.
Any idea how many of us there is going to be?
MLeclair 02-13-2008, 12:34 AM Well wutever, if u dont to find a dyno go for it. I'm not going to waste matthews time and set up a dyno day if everyone is going to albiet.
DoubleLP 02-13-2008, 12:38 AM Set ut up MLeclair.......make it so. :)
Pickles 02-13-2008, 12:41 AM Well wutever, if u dont to find a dyno go for it. I'm not going to waste matthews time and set up a dyno day if everyone is going to albiet.
I'm just sayin. I don't care where we go. It would just be nice to save some money too.
Who pooped in your cornflakes?
Kaisoboy 02-13-2008, 12:47 AM I went to a RSX dyno day at Techmotion. Its the same one Mike is talking about. Mat basically charged 60 bucks for about three pulls but you would have to call him ASAP to get this set up here in calgary though. I would also say to have it set up for sometime after you put your summer wheels back on. You could maybe also call the Mustang shop they also have a dyno. They both use a Mustang dyno as well.

Haha no one did... i hope...
outtamymind 02-13-2008, 01:19 AM i pooped in your cornflakes mike. it was all me.
Pickles 02-13-2008, 01:20 AM i pooped in your cornflakes mike. it was all me.
 Oh steve, what would we do without you?
outtamymind 02-13-2008, 01:21 AM you would all die of boredom

Yeah yeah thats the one i went tooo. I asked Matthew to give me a call, i talked to him about a month ago, he said i can pick a day to come in and get dyno'd but i was just too busy. We'll see what we can work out guys. Can someone please make a new Thread, and people stop talking about stupid shit.
New thread will be to take down names of who would like to come out to calgary and get dyno'd maybe we all can goto bp's for dinner and all. Anyways. Someone please get a list going with just people saying " I would like to go " or whatever.
Thanks guys.
outtamymind 02-13-2008, 01:22 AM im down even if i don't have many mods i would still think it would be a good idea to get a base dyno anyways.
MLeclair 02-13-2008, 01:50 AM OKay i'll make a thread,
okay guys new thread is uppp.
sidejam 02-13-2008, 07:48 AM You could maybe also call the Mustang shop they also have a dyno. They both use a Mustang dyno as well.
Nope. Asked them once before and the Mustang dyno at "The Mustang Shop" will only dyno Mustangs...
Go figure. ;)
BlackSS/SC 02-13-2008, 10:17 AM What about the Edmonton dyno day? Anyone interested in that?
an0malous 02-13-2008, 10:20 AM I like that idea too.
though if i happen to be off, im not adverse to a trip to cowtown to have a dyno down there if need be.
i think ill start up a thread for ed folks to see if we have enough.
N/ADC5 02-13-2008, 03:09 PM I would just like to add here if I could not to use a certain VW place that has a dynojet.
The service was terrrible, they loaded 2 cars without any waivers, asking info, etc.
Didn't even want to let us watch. And... the numbers were not consistent. I had 6.5whp variance, and my buddy had 5whp. Also, we had both dyno'd on a certain dyno already mentioned, and had varying gains from one car to the next. Comments were made about our cars as we waited within earshot, etc. Terrible experience all around.
Cheers
