Cobalt30 12-14-2005, 11:57 PM the darkest w/o getting pulled over or a ticket from the cops ryan RaineMan 12-15-2005, 12:01 AM Check and see what is legal in your area before you do it. Also, something really dark will make seeing out of your back window and in your side mirrors extremely dangerous at night. I went only as dark as is legal here in NC... that way I don't have to worry about cops or inspections (they check that stuff at inspection time, ya' know?). Adirondack_Cobalt 12-15-2005, 12:11 AM The darker the better... my Cavalier was 5% and I loved it! (until it got dark-lol) The cops used to pull me over and I'd tell them, your $50 ticket is nothing compared to the $350 I paid to have ti done. Start writing... I only got one ticket for tint and the judge threw it out because the cop was an asshat. :twothumbs With my Cobalt, this one will get the 5% treatment once it gets warmer. Scott 5% aint shit, i got 2% in the rear... and 10% in the front... bdwarr6 12-15-2005, 01:13 AM Im leaning twords 15% and 5% on the rear side windows PenguinPIE 12-15-2005, 01:23 AM Check and see what is legal in your area before you do it. I went only as dark as is legal here in NC... that way I don't have to worry about cops or inspections (they check that stuff at inspection time, ya' know?). totally agreed.......i got 20% done for the back windows.........even that took me some time to get use to.........both day time and night time..........so yea....think through it before u unroll the tint WSFrazier 12-15-2005, 01:28 AM I too would like to get 5% but am afraid of how bad it will be at night. Could someone possible take a pic at night from inside their car? bdwarr6 12-15-2005, 01:29 AM I had 5% on my eclipse, you learn to drive by making out light specs as cars. Seriously all you can see is head lights. GotBoost? 12-15-2005, 01:35 AM Has anyone else had a proplem with tinting the back window? I went to get mine tinted and he said he could only tint it up to where the factory tint/dots started because the tint would not stick to it. I am unhappy with this. Has anyone else have there's tinted all the way up, and not have any proplems with it not sticking? WSFrazier 12-15-2005, 01:42 AM Has anyone else had a proplem with tinting the back window? Has anyone else have there's tinted all the way up, and not have any proplems with it not sticking? I have read on here that people have had it done successfully. A good tinter should be able to do it with a little work. abstract 12-15-2005, 01:47 AM I have read on here that people have had it done successfully. A good tinter should be able to do it with a little work. kind of...more like they will put a heavier piece of vinyl over the dots....ask them about it...mine included it with the tint obviously.. campo165 12-15-2005, 01:52 AM Has anyone else had a proplem with tinting the back window? Has anyone else have there's tinted all the way up, and not have any proplems with it not sticking? Yes, well it all depends. I know my brother got the same thing with his Mustang GT. The lady said it depends on the car, really. She said sometimes it sticks, sometimes it doesn't. I guess it is one of those weird things in life. But isn't that most things? But yea, sometimes there is nothing you can do. Damn little dots. :cussing: DarthDalla 12-15-2005, 05:17 AM I have heard it will not stick to the dots as well but when I got my tint done I asked the installer and he said he can make it work, 7 months later still looks perfect over the dots no peeling or bubbling, they also gave me a lifetime warranty if it did peel bubble or turn a funny color I have it replaced for free, just go to a reputable place would be my advice so if it does peel they will take care of you Malaclypse 12-15-2005, 06:27 AM I've got 20% all around. I have to say its really the best balance of functionality and privacy there is. Also, I had the dot-matrix covered with black vinyl instead of tint. Looks great both inside and out of the car. Also know.. I'm -very- light sensitive, that being said, high-beams through the rear glass with 20% don't bother me. w/ 20% and an Ebony interior I don't get a second glance from the police. Legal in TX is 35% front/whatever rear. So long as the front and rear tint look the same and its light enough to see through a bit in daylight, the cops probably won't bother you. celicacobalt 12-15-2005, 09:53 AM 35% or u are asking to get pulled over RedBaseBolt 12-15-2005, 01:06 PM Black Spray Paint. : :twothumbs WSFrazier 12-15-2005, 01:24 PM 35% or u are asking to get pulled over Well where we live. yes. Tinting is completely illegal here. But in some places 35% is completely legal. Maybe even lower. celicacobalt 12-15-2005, 03:10 PM then they are lucky lol our state sucks Nuclear 12-21-2005, 08:12 PM any info on the dot matrix(micro dots) on the rear window, how do you prevent the bubbles? Mercury 12-21-2005, 08:21 PM 5% will make you look like a drug dealer IMO love my SS 12-21-2005, 08:28 PM i have 15% on back and sides, and 20% on the doors, 3m tint. the guy that done my car has been doing it for 30+ years, and did a very good job. he did the back glass in one full sheet, and very little bubbles, and it has stuck over the bubbles in the glass thus far. bdwarr6, i live just south of you near seymour, and ive been pulled over twice, and neither time did the cop ever say anything about the tint, and both times were at night. a side note to the tint, be aware that at least in mine and a few others i asked on this board, after you tint the front windows, when they are rolled down and the doors are shut several times, something on the inside of the door panel rubs a hole into the tint about an inch and a half down and about two inches in from the top corner. mine has this on both windows. dont know whats doing it, but i had a thread on here and others said it did it on thiers also. just fyi. carbombss 12-21-2005, 08:29 PM 5% will make you look like a drug dealer IMO  then i guess im 1 i have 5% all around an 40% on winshield :twothumbs importkiller 12-21-2005, 10:28 PM In Colorado you can legaly do 27% all around guess what i am getting, 27%, i am gonna be a cop so i gota obey the laws. memphisr24 12-21-2005, 10:38 PM Get limo tint. Isn't that like 1% or lower? wikkymaster 12-21-2005, 10:45 PM wow if you guys posted pics that would be such a great help! memphisr24 12-21-2005, 11:19 PM Screw it, Just get some nice glossy black paint and paint your windows with it lol. bdwarr6 12-22-2005, 12:57 AM I got 20% all around with a 5% brow and I love it. It realy looks good with a yellow ss sneaky 12-22-2005, 12:59 AM All my windows (except the front) are tinted to 5%, best decision ever made, the front is getting about 20% tint (not to look obvious). I paid about $225 for the tint that will last forever, there was a $20 difference between the tint that lasts 5 years (turns purple and peels folks) and the tint that will last the life of the car, I choose the second one. Side effects include gawking, smiles, police trouble (haven't run into any yet), and complete privacy. My tint makes it feel like it's dark out all day (unless the windows are rolled down). I've got nothing but compliments on my tint. Some guys at the meet were even mentioing about my tint. They thought it was nicely done. Getting the front window tinted in the spring to complete the look. It's about another $100. bdwarr6 12-22-2005, 01:06 AM I begged to get my windsheild done i offered extra 50 buck under table plus the cost of tint and labor and they still said no where did you get your windsheild done? Mike_42 12-22-2005, 01:07 AM I will be getting my windows tinted at some point here ( in fact is 'sounds' like my parents might be paying for it for me as a Christmas present.. we'll see....). I haven't yet decided how dark to go.. but I am going to stay on the practical side and a balance of good visibility and good looks .... If anyone is wondering about what is legal in their state, there are some handy websites which will help: www.tintcenter.com/laws hrmm I once saw a cool one that had a US map and shows the percentages on each state, but cant seem to locate that one right now. bdwarr6 12-22-2005, 01:10 AM 20% is the best IMO you cant see in until alot of light hits it then vis is limited but inside you can see 100% perfect. I have had 5% and the differance is huge 20% is better if you want to be able to see what your doing. sneaky 12-22-2005, 01:12 AM I begged to get my windsheild done i offered extra 50 buck under table plus the cost of tint and labor and they still said no where did you get your windsheild done? The place I went to called sunshades will do it but they say it's agains the law to even touch the windshield with tint, the back window is ok, the sides are to a point the front you can't touch. They said they will do it for me but said it's illegal and will stand out indefinitly. Maybe that is why they won't do it. sneaky 12-22-2005, 01:13 AM 20% is the best IMO you cant see in until alot of light hits it then vis is limited but inside you can see 100% perfect. I have had 5% and the differance is huge 20% is better if you want to be able to see what your doing. I choose 5% because the Michigan summers get hot! And if you don't have a good tint setup your ass will fry on the leather seats. For whatever reason too the A/C allows the cabin to get cooler cause less light is entering the cabin. Nice for me. :) bdwarr6 12-22-2005, 01:16 AM 5% was to dark for me you've got better eyes than me, but I drive alot at night and need visability. sneaky 12-22-2005, 01:30 AM 5% was to dark for me you've got better eyes than me, but I drive alot at night and need visability. Plenty of visiblity here, most people have HID kits on there cars. Too damn bright even with tint all around.. drives me nuts. Even the shitty cars are running with cheap knock offs that give glare. those drive me nuts too :thumbsdow oaklandmr 12-22-2005, 08:47 AM I can voutch for that. I guess thats what happens when u live/work in a ritzy area. Most of metro detroit to the north is kinda ritzy. sneaky 12-22-2005, 08:58 AM I can voutch for that. He lives outside of the city of Lapeer. I go thru 24 every weekend :). There is a house that's painted dark red that has a silver saleen mustang parked outside. I want it ;) redlineblueline 12-22-2005, 11:49 AM I know my buddy's Audi and Excursion both have 5% all around (illegally) and I have driven the Excursion at night and I must say that it is damn hard and I've rode in the Audi and I don't see how he drives it all the time. oaklandmr 12-22-2005, 01:06 PM Um I would say closer to Genesee County. Yea that mustang is pretty hot...ive seen him driving it before in the winter. Do over 25mph on Dryden rd you damn straight your going to get pulled over. oaklandmr 12-22-2005, 02:25 PM My neighbor is the asst. police chief there. I know alot of the metamora cops so i kinda luck out there. But yea some of them are kinda assholes. |
