5.7 litres... or 6 quarts.

Do not put more or you will be overfilling the car. When you fill the car with oil after an oil change you have to run the car for a minute or two then turn it off and wait at least 2 minutes for the oil to drain before you check to see if it is full. The SS/SC oil has a long way to go to get to the oil pan so it takes a little while for the oil to all drain down there for you to check it after you turn the car off.

With the synthetic oil that the cobalt takes how long should one wait before changing the oil. I know it lasts longer that the recommended 3K mi/3 month, right?

nm, I guess GM and companies that dedicate their time to doing oil studies are liars

I could go on a long spiel here, but I'll refrain

oil isnt just oil. synthetic is much more stable and doesnt break down quickly like conventional does. 5000 miles between oil changes is normal on synthetic.

follow your oil life moniter.

I don't buy into the gimmick oil that last 5,000 miles or 7,500 miles or whatever it is. Whether they tested it or not.

wow! They are not even close to the same. Gimmick, I think not. Stop telling people facts that are not true. no wonder people have so many problems with cars, they listen to people that talk from their asses.

I wonder if it depends on how long it's been since you've changed your oil as to how much oil you have to put in because my most recent oil change i got charged for 7 quarts and the time before i got charged for 6 quarts. The time I had to put six quarts in, I went 4000 miles on the oil and the other time I went 3000 miles.

I have never had to put more then 6 quarts in mine. GM says it only takes 6 quarts so why would you put more?

As for as milage before changing oil... my first oil change I changed at about 2000 miles. Each oil change after has been about 5K - 6K. I have 40K on the car now and it still runs just as good as the day I bought it.

If you feel more comfortable changing your oil at 3K then change it at 3K. If spending a little more money makes you feel better then do what gives you peace of mind.

It only takes 6 quarts, you need to wait 30 mins for it to drain down to show up on the dipstick. 6.5 is overfilling it.

Onyxd04Redline...Royal Purple's website does not say RP meets GM standards for synthetic oils. Even if you search their entire domain....
http://www.royalpurple.com

The GM Standard GM4718M is what is approved for the Ion Redline, and Cobalt SS/SC.

If Royal Purple is so good...why did they not get this certification?

you have to turn the key half way and push the gas pedal down 3 times in a row. That will take care of it.
