View Full Version : Air Box Mod Gains? OverbooSSt 02-19-2008, 04:46 PM Yes I used search! couldnt come up with anything usefull... Anyone have any proven gains for the air box mod? Dyno? If not anyone have a rough est of gains? HickOverLOrd 02-19-2008, 04:46 PM 5-10hpMAX probably. 07cobaltss 02-19-2008, 04:48 PM yes the airbox mod sounds like a nice cheap alternative. i'd go with the injen. eurochevy 02-19-2008, 04:48 PM basically the same as an intake..use the search button (the air-box mod section good one to read up) lsjwannabe 02-19-2008, 04:48 PM not much worth mentioning just a cool sound OverbooSSt 02-19-2008, 05:01 PM basically the same as an intake..use the search button (the air-box mod section good one to read up) Yes I used search! couldnt come up with anything usefull... Anyone have any proven gains for the air box mod? Dyno? If not anyone have a rough est of gains? .... saunders1986 02-19-2008, 05:20 PM u should get a intake...... airbox mod is ghetto.... OverbooSSt 02-19-2008, 05:37 PM I am ghetto son! No not really just a newfie that wants something for nothing you should know that sam... we will do the hardest thing just to save some money and then in the end just go buy the real thing anyway... saunders1986 02-19-2008, 05:40 PM lol i guess lol an0malous 02-19-2008, 05:42 PM just buy a quality filter and take the bottom off your intake and use another method to keep the filter secure. chevysalesman614 02-19-2008, 05:43 PM probably 5whp or less.. but thats not bad for $5. if you really want to get an extra pony or two i would heat wrap the entire stock plastic intake tube, then do the ABM. an0malous 02-19-2008, 05:46 PM i doubt that would do alot to be honest. the intake doesnt even get warm on hard runs. not to mention heatwrapping that entire thing would be quite expensive. saunders1986 02-19-2008, 05:50 PM yeah i cant see heat wrapping helping at all. Onyxd04Redline 02-19-2008, 05:56 PM 219whp - Stock 224whp - Airbox mod Mike 02-19-2008, 05:56 PM just buy a quality filter and take the bottom off your intake and use another method to keep the filter secure. That's what I did; 14" zip ties FTW! No one can see it unless the car's on a lift anyway. I freaking LOVE the sound, but I believe I also saw decent gains at the track (in trap speed), though since I didn't run both setups the same night, I pretty much won't have any credibility if I state my gains. I'd do it and save the rest of the cash for something else! Edit - My car was a Stage 2 when I did this mod. n8g 02-19-2008, 06:32 PM This was the first thing I did to my car. I dropped a solid .3 in the quarter. Similar weather conditions on both nights. Herndon_High_SS 02-19-2008, 06:36 PM uhhhh..... .3 in the 1/4 mile? I'm sorry but that is extreamly hard to believe. Maybe you just drove a lot better when you went back to the track.. Greased 02-19-2008, 06:40 PM yeah im sorry, but maybe 5 horsepower will not drop you .3 in the quarter mile. How can you even compare any two single runs? so many factors go into your track times Herndon_High_SS 02-19-2008, 06:41 PM .3 seconds would probably be around stock vs. stage 2 crazy-eh666 02-19-2008, 06:43 PM injen injen injen injen injen injen injen injen OverbooSSt 02-19-2008, 07:50 PM i already have my filter on the way so another method right now is out of the question... this thread was for gains not advice... That sounded a bit ignorant but i couldnt find a nice way to say that? hmmm ever have that problem? dont take it officensivley(sp) its just the way it came out. lol but seriously tho...i am an asshole nahhh just joking But seriously tho... saunders1986 02-19-2008, 07:52 PM seriously though, when i meet u, and u dont have a intake, i'm stealing ur filter muahahaha! daedlus 02-19-2008, 07:56 PM ^^^ OverbooSSt 02-19-2008, 08:00 PM while your steeling my filter, ill be unbolting that nice CAI you have while doing this  saunders1986 02-19-2008, 08:01 PM :o !!! n8g 02-20-2008, 10:16 AM uhhhh..... .3 in the 1/4 mile? I'm sorry but that is extreamly hard to believe. Maybe you just drove a lot better when you went back to the track.. I know there are more factors than just the airbox. But it helped me drop my ET. .3 seconds is roughly 30HP (from what I'm used to seeing). Obviously it wasn't all from the airbox. Maybe someone put a sticker on my car somewhere and I didn't notice. Drakonen2000 02-20-2008, 11:17 AM ok, here is what i vote for...i vote a vendor makes a bracket to secure a high flow stock style filter in the box using the original mounting hardware....it would be simple, just a stamped piece of steel with a few holes in it...and they could sell it for like 10 bucks plus shipping an0malous 02-20-2008, 11:56 AM all i did when i did mine, was put an aem DRYFLOW in there, and take the bottom cap off the airbox, and replace it with some mesh which i screwed right back in there. joey26lil 02-20-2008, 12:07 PM i had the airbox mod and the k&n and xtc cai ..with the airbox mod i didnt notice a difference over the 2 intakes that ive had except for a little better throttle response and the s/c was way louder with the intakes over the airbox mod... NKBALLR 03-07-2008, 12:32 AM i have done the air box mod and then dynoed it and it gave me 213 |
