2.2l vs OZ rally Lancer

k so my girlfriends co-worker is super confidant that his oz rally edition 120hp i4 lancer will slaughter a 2.2 cobalt (mine to be exact) and that his car is a better match for the SS.(2.4). he is retarded right? or is there some Japanese secrets in the motor.? btw i think im running round 15.8 in the 1/4 with current mods. what y'all think.?

You'd be lucky to run a 16.40

But you can still take him if he's auto

The OZ wouldn't stand a chance...now if it was the newer ralliart you would have your hands full

QFT.
QFT? huh?

and lucky for a 16.4 really? cause in the 1/4 mi. drag times i see some pretty good times with few mods. and dont bash the auto i dont think it dampers the power as much as you would think..

yeh btw its not a newer ralliart, just an 06 oz rally...when he told me 120 hp i asked...to the wheels right? and he said no...kinda just was like oooo k.

No, it doesn't damper the power... but most Auto's these days have very bad gearing for racing.

And you should lay waste to him... put money on it.

The autos are significantly slower then the 5speed, notice there isnt a single auto on the 1/4 list? https://www.cobaltss.net/forums/drag-racing-52/official-cobalt-1-4-mile-list-65389/

Yeah they do.

An auto has more drivetrain loss than a manual.

As I said... refer to my post... poor gear ratios are to blame.

Not ALL autos are that bad... but most production auto's are.

Lemme rephrase... it isn't so much the drivetrain loss, as it is the POOR RATIOS. Yes, they steal more power... but that isn't the MAIN reason as to why they are slower.

Very true...but most of the time when autos are used are when BIG numbers are made where a few horses don't really matter

Indeed... that was what I was refering to. The fast cars... when the almost instant shifts of an Auto far outweigh the pros of manual drivetrain loss.

Hate to break it to ya but I own an auto 2.2, possibly one of the most heavily modified auto 2.2's ever.

With an intake and exhaust I couldnt best 16.40 with 20 runs, damn near perfect launches and 60 degrees out at sea level.

Maybe he had a bad launch... and if you did it from a roll... then your argument is invalid. Cobalts are one of the worst launchers around, for one.

You're not running 16s.

Get over it.

Auto's are easy to launch, rarely get any wheel spin due to the gearing and lack of torque

That's whats nice about Autos and small amounts of power. Either way... There are a lot of cars out there that can get REALLY good launches compared to what I have seen most Cobalts do.

Beat me to it, you hack.

I have no doubt he's running well into the 16's

If I had to guess I'd say you'd run 16.50 at the track right this second.

There's no way in hell you're running a 15.80 though

I dont know many people with sticks that can outlaunch me in my cobalt. Even far superior cars.

Regardless, It's still a 16 second car
