I"m looking at a set of local wheels with tires for $350. They are 17" Motegi FF7s black with a polished lip. However the clear coat has just started to peel.

My question is, I know that I should strip the clear coat, but if i use a chemical stripper will that take the black paint off as well?

I have a guy that can re-clear them for $100, or if the black comes off I came have them powdercoated for $200.

Which would you guys recommend.

The reason I am looking into these is because the tires are brand new. They are BF Goodrich KDWs which I know are amazing tires. They have like 95% tread left.

Any help?
