I've wondered that myself about nationals. Pretty sure I was about a second off the guy that won STX in dixie (I think but no results posted yet) in his fully prepped RX8. He came in 27th of 43 at nationals in 2010 and a second back would have put me right behind him in 28th. I've run 2 events since I ran against him and have gotten MUCH faster as I adapt to the new setup. Ya I'm stretching it pretty thin but its the only gauge I have right now. lol Not bad for a very under prepped car.

nothing really, I've run about 7 autox events in the last 8 weeks. so, just driving the hell out of it. Waiting till the off season to go with camber plates, XXX rear bar and a tune. Debating on going to VIR in august with TrackDaze.
Nice pic Dart! They look so different in black, I love'em.

I bet it could be a good STX car and you seem to be doing quite well with it. I think one issue is a lack of aftermarket. yes there is one but not like some cars, so the ability to test new different setups is limited. Something I will think about. I do like the cobalt stock, it does quite well and has awesome shock value lol

I do pretty well in OVR autocross in STX, and I am a newbie and I think this car could go much faster driven by someone more talented. I am not supposed to be in that class technically due to GSM1, but since I am new and we all are right around each others times no one cares that I run STX. I would like to get the wheels jboogie has next year and run STU. Once I can get more grip I want to get more power aka real tune and bolt ons

You are not allowed to alter your boost in STX. I have the GSM1 tune now (which I am not sure that even helps in autox), but technically I should not be allowed in that class. I have seen many people argue about the GSM1 tune and if it actually is increasing boost or just increasing torque limit so boost is just a side affect. I think STU is the next class up that can do tunes with boost increases, but even then I need to do some more reading.

If you look at this sheet it gives you allowed mods for each class without going into to much detail and searching through a 300page book

You have to go to SP to be able to change boost. Like you said you are new and no one is going to bust your ***** lol, not unless you start winning

I'm still really torn on the boost thing. If the WRX guys can run trick downpipes and have controled "boost creep" then screw you our cars can run 21 psi stock. Still not sure what way I'll go when I tune though.

I feel the same way. Maybe a tuner can jump in here, but there isn't anything saying 'boost to this level' in the tables is there? Its just a side affect of asking for more power right?

yeah might have to ask a tuner on that. Plus thats another issue I have is trusting a tuner around here to not mess up the cobalt, and tune it to the specific STX rules. I dont know enough about tuning to know what we can and cant do on the cobalt. I built my STI and sent it to P&L and told them to tune it for me :P

It's easy to tune an STI and not really mess with the boost levels. There's a very distinct difference in how you tune an STI and how you tune for the LNF. For the STI you can tweak wastegate tables and boost tables, both of which have a direct impact on boost levels. You can just avoid those and tweak timing, but if someone wants to get really technical, they can ask to compare the wastegate tables too, to see if the tuner created an artificial boost spike.
In the LNF ECU, again, you can mess with timing separately, but all of the air load tables control boost levels. Is it possible for a stock car to spike to 21 psi? Yes, but the circumstances would have to be very strange. Tiny boost leak, super high temp, high altitude. Maybe all of those combined If you mess with DAL or MAL, I'd say it's very deliberately attempting to control boost.
