Whitnith, do you run the ST-43's on the street or swap them for track? I have a short 5 mile commute and think I can get by...carefully, as others have in Miata's...or run a DTC-30 or something? I'm working the Ferodo 1000 a little too much on track but need enough cold bite for autox too.

I leave them on all the time, but I rarely street drive the car. I don't think they would be a good autox pad, they take a solid lap at RA to come to temp.

I see you're in Madison. What tracks do you run?

A lap at RA is quite a bit of time to warm up. Thanks for the input.

I run at Black Hawk Farms, South Beloit.

The Madison club (MSCC) does autox in local ovals: Madison International, Jefferson Speedway, Dells and now RA Motorplex. Was going to do an RA HDPE last year but autox schedule didn't work in my favor. Maybe this year. 2016 Parking Lot Autocross Schedule | Madison Sports Car Club

Anyone worry about changing pad compound front or rear to improve track braking or install a brake bias valve?

Also, did anyone hear about braking a control arm on track, except for the one at the GM Proving grounds?

We looked at doing a bias knob, but eh, couldnt justify the cost and work, since the master cylinder also feeds the clutch.

Im running Carbotech XP10 and XP8's and leave them in the car for when I take it to work, never had a problem aside from dust.

most of us are going to be fine with Stock ferodo pads, if you have brembos. If your using anything other than brembos, i would upgrade the pads.

the braking bias is fine the way it is.

It was a knuckle that broke, and it was on an LSJ, at the GM proving grounds. There are no other cases of this happening on an LSJ that didnt hit something. you can always upgrade to the GM performance knuckles if you want, but its not a necessity.

Same pad compound on both axles?

How quickly would you say the XP10's get proper brake torque? I short autocross and high-speed autocross (similar to one lap time-attack) so I'm looking for a pad that is ready at corner 1 and up to 20 minutes on track. Stock Ferodo 1000 pads were the best for everything over the last 3 years besides more than 15 minutes of hot laps.

Couldn't tell you yet. We blew a motor this weekend in the first session, so it was a very short day for us.

you still got third even though you blew up lol ?

What were the other 2 guys driving ?

350whp on an m62 is a far fetch lol .... your gunna need a TVS for that. Just about 300whp is what your guna be able to squeeze out of the m62, that is riding it at the limit though, not too sure how aggressive your tuning is though since your road racing it.

Yeah. I got third with the motor coming apart and only really running on 3 cylinders, lol. We only lost second by like half a second, haha. Both were current Gen civics. I don't think we woulda caught 1st place. Very very well sorted out and aero set up new civic from a winning team. Hard to beat cars that get CFD for aero.

We'll see. want 300 fo sho. Trevor Jolly is gonna build the motor and cooling setup for the car now.

Ugh this year sucks, haha. Motor is still at Trevor Jolly's. waiting on the custom Arias pistons to come in so he can finish it and put it all back together with his magic touch. Hoping to have the car together by my birthday in August.

Then I just need to heal. Had some major shoulder surgery 3 weeks ago (That race at buttonwillow? it hurt to shift, to get in and out of the car, etc) I got hit on pit road at Indianapolis Raceway Park in 2006 pitting an Xfinity series race, and walked it off. Apparently I fractured my collarbone and damaged my shoulder, and have just been shrugging off it getting worse and worse till last winter, lol.

Hopefully I will be thru my PT at the end of September with full range and strength, and my doc will clear me to drive the racecar again. We would like to make GTA's Super Lap Battle in November, but are trying to find some funding. Building a motor and more, plus surgery kinda depleted all the funding for the season. If anyone knows someone who might be interested, shoot me a message, We just made a new sponsor deck to pass out.

That's one of the reasons I've not got into road racing, as that's the place I would probably go. After paying for tires and brakes it's still really expensive to run there. I've heard it's a nice track and have had a few buddies run there. Lucas oil only charges $25 to drag race so that's where I've spent time instead. Would still like to try it at some point, I hear there are some nice cars that run there.

It is not cheap, but I used to auto X and I hated paying 45 bucks for maybe 5 runs that lasted ~1 minute, THEN working the cones for 2 hours for the next heat.

500 bucks for 4 hours of on track time is well worth it to me.

People that think they are fast on the street have no idea how much faster
it is on the track.

They also have single day prices if you're interested in just doing it for
one day.

A friend of mine also told me that sometimes when car clubs run you can do it cheaper. May check into next year.

I'm glad it's not that much to run over here! We pay 100 for 4 hours, 160 for 8 hours in summer season and 100 for 6 hours in winter season
Now if only I could get my car in good enough shape to actually go there again :/
