If your bf is going to install it, I'd suggest buying a catback online as it probably would be a bit cheaper
Also a word of advice to your bf, I hope he has small hands and fore arms! it's pretty tight between the engine bay and thefirewall if your going to be putting a header on! lol

Well I had my Dsm done with a straight 3" pipe from the turbo back and it was like $300. That was them installing it. Then I put my magnaflow muffler on the end. With them doing it and making it for you it will probably still be a lot cheaper than the gm exhaust. I have the magnaflow cat back on my cobalt and it was pricey. I didn't buy it though so I don't care. It came with the car and I put it on. It was very simple to do. Whatever you choose to do don't pay gm to put a cat back on for you that's too much. Although you really need to think do you want a loud car? I don't like loud cars that why I went back to the stock downpipe/ manifold.

I want to keep the sound a bit stock as I like the growl it makes. My boyfriend recommends Magna flow because he thinks its a deep growl and a bit louder.

Edit: Also you could get the B&M Shift plus for your car which I think is like $50, so a good investment. It plugs into the diagnostic port right by your left foot at the kick panel. That would increase shift firmness and you'd notice a difference in pick up. Then later you could get a complete tune in conjunction with the shift plus.

Yea, thats what i was gonna say. My local muffler shop charges like 175 or something for a complete catback 2.5" exhaust with a magnaflow muffler, that's how much they charged for my Jeep. She could save a good bit.

I did my exhaust on a budget.
I bought a performance muffler for $70
and had a local shop replace the restrictive tubing and weld in the muffler for $120
[My exhaust shop experience.]
The said shop is Fountain Tire in Didsbury. They do a great job and involve you along the way
with making sure they do exactly as you wish. They charged me an hour's labour and it took him well over 2 hours to fit the tubing and welding. The reason for the wait was becasue he started over once with the tubing because he wasnt happy that it wasn't perfect. I had them use the stock tip and they showed how it would sit before he welded it for good. The breakdown of the cost was $95 for labour and $16 for 4' of tubing.
I have pics of it installed.
Hope this helps

Don't get that it's garbage and not nearly as good as a tune trust me. Also you can do a custom exhaust way cheaper as well. Your stock exhaust is already 2.5 inch until the rear portion where it drops down to 2.25 inch. Just buy the cti 2.5 inch axel kit from ottp and buy a muffler of your choice and then get that all welded up. For a header get madbad header and zzp 2.5 inch downpipe and highflow cat. For a intake get either injen or k/n typhoon intake. I personally like k/n because its up in the engine bay so no worries about water getting sucked up by the filter. After you get all that get a tune to finish it off.

Naturally aspirated cars can be plenty of fun on their own right - and those changes will really wake your car up.
