2nd gears grinding :/

Pretty sure I got a bad synchro for second gear. Coming home from a car show and went to downshift into second from third. It grinded. Thinking I didn't have the clutch pushed in enough, I tried it again. Same thing happened. Came to a stop and tried shifting through the gears. All gears seem fine and go in. Went for a little ride to see if it was still doing it and it does. It does go into second if there isn't a huge load on the motor. Other than that its sol.

Clutch seems fine other than it won't hold wot on fourth. When it is in second gear, it does still drive fine. Its just going into second either from an upshift or a downshift.

Just wondering if any of you gods on here know that the synchro is my problem or something else. If you need any more info ask away. Haha.

Wow sorry to hear how old is the trans? I'm thinking of installing my ZZP clutch rod to help protect me from doing this I don't always press the pedal all the way when shifting

sounds like clutch is done and perhaps second gear blocker ring. as for the adjustable clutch rod its a big risk to over throw the tob and blow that out. sad to hear of the issues.Perhaps the clutch was an issue first and the trans followed second

Trans was installed last august and all new pieces other than the clutch and flywheel were replaced. Skipping second sucks. Loss of power hardcore and bogs. Driving it home soon and I'll eventually end up letting it sit for a bit and just drive my daily for a while.

Powell explained to me at ced that it isn't actually a sychro, theres some ring on second gear that gets worn out but the plus side is that (what he told me) is that there's a magnetic piece in there that the chunks from the gears will stick to instead of flying off and messing the tranny up

Also do a search on here about adjusting the rods under the cup holders, could be a simple problem like that.

Under a load and shifting to second it definitely feels like some things in the way. Regardless of what happens now, when the trans gets dropped I'll be putting in another clutch. Never did like the KY with all its chattering and aggressiveness.

I'll look into it and do some more researching tomorrow. I just needed some piece of mind of what's actually going on with this. Didn't wanna just jump to the conclusion of needing a new trans.

I've been running an aluminum flywheel and ZZP stage 4 clutch love both can't even tell it's an upgraded clutch other than it never slips

its hard to know what to suggest for a clutch. stock is good for me. but the exedy hyper single is the toughest out there but a pita for the street and sintered metallic puck discs chatter and rattle. email me for anything i can provide to assist.

I read in a couple places that sometimes it can be fixed with whatever is adjustable under the cupholders (forget what they are called). It didn't work for me so I ended up getting a new trans.

in my experience lightweight flywheels without an ati balancer at the nose of the crank leads to timing chain sprocket issues, there are lots of that on here.

in 2004 we discontinued using lightweight flywheels in the cobalt race program. timing chain problems are so many on here its hard to say what the time frequency is and what parts were in what engine.

This some what of a downer though. I had my daily ripped apart doing little things to it so I babied my car for like 2 and a half weeks driving back and forth to work and to my woman's house. Got off work and gave it a bath for the car show and get home to this.

Powell's a good dude. Contacted him a week or so ago and we are getting things sorted out and taken care of. Awaiting the trans to be shipped to me next week, install within a couple days from then, and then shipping my 4.45 trans back to him to figure out what happened.

All I gotta say is John Powell is DA MAN!

Didn't break anything. Just changing out all fluids along with filters, fixing the kdp, fixing leaks, and just routine maintaince. Long ass day no doubt. Plenty more tomorrow. Truck has 230k miles on it and I have no idea when any of the fluids and stuff have been changed so I figure I'd do it. Dude I bought it off of said it had fresh fluids, but the coolant was like swamp water and the oil was in globs at first. Wasn't too happy to say the least.
