Lnf bellhousing dust cover

Does anyone know what the part number is? Its missing for some reason and the flywheel is exposed. It's the cover that bolts to the transmission and is next to the intermediate shaft. Viewable from under the car.

almost everyone has said it's fine.

What negatives could it actually cause?

Keeps large contaminants out and what not. I just found it strange to have a decent size hole there, where the flywheel is exposed, without a cover. Never owned a car that was like that.

Has, i think, 2 bolt holes and is located next to the half shaft where it goes into the transmission.

I've seen them on every cobalt i've done a clutch on. I have forgotten to put them back in and there was never any adverse effect. It doesn't really do much. It's just there to fill a gap that isn't there on other transmissions I believe.

It's like GM knew people were going to need to replace things when they made these awesome diagrams.

Guessing #8 is what you're looking for. $8.
COVER. Flywheel & Clutch & Converter Housing. Transmission Case. 5-SPEED for 2009 Chevrolet Cobalt. #21018743

I dont think that's the correct part or it might be a different cover on the back side of the transmission. This part appears to be metal and has two bolts to hold it on. I started to fab one because i figured no one had it. I still haven't seen a picture of it by itself. Gm needs to set up their IPB's like honda did. You can go to any honda oem parts site and all the IPB's are detailed, site is very user friendly, simple, and the part numbers are organized.

I can't say that I've ever noticed or seen the part you are referring to. You can try delving into the transmission pages on that first site and see if you can locate it.

I've never seen that part on my car but I had the trans replaced at dealership under warranty like 5 years ago after I bought it new. I honestly think you would be better off leaving that part off/leaving that area open. Let the clutch breath and have an area where all the clutch dust can escape.
