[QUOTE=zinner;1522500]Since it's coming up a lot I have created this thread to consolidate all the findings from after market installs on the cobalt.
No the Avic-D3 is too deep to fit in the existing radio well. You have to remove some of the plastic behind the radio and bend some supports back. Also I trimmed the front bezel in the 95-3302 kit and redrill some screw holes for the Avic to sit forward a bit more in the mount.
There are lots of wires to hook up. The VSS is tapped off the C3 pin 45 yellow wire off the PCM in my 05 SS/SC, when you hook it up it takes about 5 miles for it to begin to pick up the VSS as a simple hybrid, so don't be worried if it doesn't work right away.
i'm getting this headunit pretty soon, what plastics do i have to remove and what supports get bent, as well as the trimming of the bezel kit? anything major cuz i'm doing htis myself, i'm kinda discouraged now?
as well as VSS, this is the wire you tap into so dvd can be used right? i've been into audio for a while, but nav and dvd are a new department for me. any help would be greatly appreciated!

I'm sorry.... But if you're going to cut away at that stuff yourself... Just say "Hi" to the bracket from hell for me.

Alright so I just got done installing everything for my avic d3 except one thing. The antenna. In the op zinner mentioned that you hook up the blue antenna wire to the blue amp on wire. I don't have the wiring harness he used. I have the gmos lan04 since I have a 07 balt. How do I go about hooking up my antenna. I quicky found out the antenna that goes to the stock radio will not fit in the avic d3 since it is some crazy antenna.

Im looking for the vss, I used the grey wire pin 61, and it dosnt work at all. where is the yellow one? I looked under the hood in front of the fuses and there are two connector things. Is the wire in one of those?

Sorry to revive an old thread but I've been reading about the VSS signal wire and there seems to be a lot of confusion. Has anyone tried to tap it off of the back of the gauge cluster? When I installed my Eclipse AVN 5510 in my old car I just tapped it off of a signal wire on the back of the gauge cluster and it worked perfectly.

just so ya'll know the gm lan-4 will solve most of the stereo wiring issues. it keeps onstar and all the chimes. there is another adapter at the website that will allow you to keep most of the steering wheel controls too.

Does anyone know how much juice the stock amp for the Pioneer system pushes? I'm thinking about replacing the subwoofer with another 10" and don't want to replace the stock amplifier because of the convenience.

i belive it was rated at 350w peak. so 175rms or 117 rms depending on how shady pioneer is or isnt. then divide that into the 7 speakers which shouldn't be even. its hard to say but in the past i think ive bet high at 75w rms for the sub. if u give them the benefit of the doubt of 175 this might go up to 100 at best

Thanks for the info. The Pioneer system isn't too bad. Just wanna see how I can add a little OOMPH to it the easiest and cheapest way possible. Maybe I'll look into just replacing the stock speakers.
