Car not starting - onstar module?

So before i got my beloved cobalt back on the road a month ago, i went on a weight reduction frenzie, and like the artard i am, i removed the onstar module in a happy go lucky fashion from the rear deck, between the speakers. i thought it was only for XM radio but perhaps i am wrong and it is also onstar.

Mechanic is pulling BCM codes for onstar communication.

He had suggested a while back that my issue could have to do with onstar, considering it was taking a while to start, and when it was on i was getting ''low coolant' and 'power steering' warnings on the dash.

well finally, the car died on me in the middle of nowhere and has refused to restart. funny.

anyway, any input here, to satisfy my curiosity? i will be bringing the module to the mechanic tonight and hopefully tomorrow i hear good news haha.

if this is the case, i guess its just funny how it ran for a week without it and now will not run.

If it ran for a week without it then it is likely not necessary. Network codes to non powertrain modules shouldnt affect the powertrain.

I believe that module had theft deterrent stuff in it perhaps it didn't imediately cause issue but after a while it noticed?
They wouldn't sell them to the general public unless it was an insurance claim back in the day.

It will need to be flashed with the vin if you do pick one up.
I'm assuming you still have yours though.
