Escort 8500 Radar detectors in Cobalts

Ok I guess this question goes here.
I have 3 Escort 8500 x50 radar detectors. (2 blue, 1 red) One in each of our '05 Cobalt, '05 Denali and '94 Dodge Stealth TT/RT. The question I have regarding the Cobalt is when I use the key fob to unlock the doors the radar detector goes off (Laser) also when ever I honk the horn for more then a second long. (note I have the horn honk twice when doors unlock) Anyone else have this radar detector? These detectors don't do this on any other vehical I have (encluding the '03 Dodge Ram I replaced with the '05 Denali this month) Yes I have traded out the detectors and which ever one is in the Cobalt senses the horn honking as "Laser detection". This is really odd beause this is the best radar I have ever owned when it comes to distance of range vs False alarms. As a matter of fact of my 3 detectors the one (which ever one it is) in the Cobalt is more suceptable to false detections then when being in the other two vehicals.
Anyone have any ideas? Thanks 05SDI

i have the x50 and i lovvvvvvvvvvve it
i always have it off unless im driving the car, so i dont know about the FOB setting it off
and ive never used the horn for more than 1 second, although i always have it sound off when the doors are being locked or unlocked
i dont know why it would do that, its weird

why dont you unplug it when you get out of the car?
that way its not using battery power

I don't unplug it because I have the smart cord that is direct wired and the source I used is hot with the key off (oops) (but both of the 12v power points are live 24/7 also)
Yes I know I could/should turn off the detector when not using the detector but that doesn't help with why it's detecting lazer when the horn honks. Thanks Onto

I use the Belltronics Pro 65 series, it is awsome. It is the same inside as your 8500x50 since they both are from Cincinatti Microwave (IMO the Belltronics looks better). But anyway I've never heard of this happening before???

gotcha
if i was you, i would put in a kill switch, that way ur not letting it drain your battery, plus if they are on in the hot sun, its not good for em, esp when temperatures in cars get up to 150*
the electronics inside will be warm from being on, and the heat could cause some damage

but i have no idea why its getting that signal when the horn goes off
maybe email escort?

This is not completely true! Yes they are both made at Cincinatti Micrwave, but saying that they (Pro 65 vs 8500) are the same detectors is just not true. For one the Pro 65 claims to be a 5 band detector and the 8500 claims to be 4 band detector. Yes they both are very good detectors but not exactly the same.

Now that's funny! You might want to look where I'm from... Heat isn't a problem! lol!

I will be calling Escort as this is my 3rd different Escort model since I was a kid (7th different detector)
Thanks 05SDI

I have the RX65 in mine and it works pretty well but a little warning to everyone...you can get a ticket for having a radar detector in any state. It not the radar detector itself that is illegal it is called "obstruction of vision". Of course the cop has to be a real dick to actually write it up.

yep

and for anybody that cares, i did a trip with the V1, and the x50, and the x50 outperformed it
it had a little better detection, and had virtually no falses, while the v1 had more falses than a geriatric's dentures

although not only do laser detectors (lidar) set them off but also some headlights and tail lights set off my laser on my V1. such as the new toyota minivan i believe it is.the head lights set off my laser. and trailblazers tail lights along w/ the mercedes suv, and a few other ones also set off my laser.

ryan

I got my first ticket in a 99 cougar for 106mph on the highway by a state trooper.
Everyone was surprised I didn't go to jail eathier but I guess since it was my first tic, he was easy.

IIRC, now in florida if what you're doing is considered "racing" they'll immediatly revoke your license and take your car.
