Head Unit Install Problems

So i am considering getting a head unit but i am unable to find anyone with this installation parts. Our local Best Buy, Circuit City and Car Toys all believe the Harnesses are nonexistent right now. The installers were saying i would have to leave the stock cd player installed in the trunk and a load of other b/s answers. I am driving a Cobalt LS and have searched these forums for an answer but havent really gotten a straight forward answer.

Who has an LS, who has installed another Head unit? Any problems so far? Door chimes still there? Don't really want any rumors just interested in first hand experiences with this.

I have a base, not an ls but I am 99.9999% sure it is the same setup, and I have replaced the head unit. you have to run a power wire and tap into a switched power supply such as the radio fuse in the fuse pannel under the hood. Other than that you do not have to keep the head unit in the trunk. The only way I can think that you might is if you have the pioneer system and then they are telling you to do that so that they don't have to run wires from your factory amp to the new deck.

just order from crutchfield.com they have everything you need. the head unit doesn't need to be moved. if you've got the pioneer you don't need to bypass the amp (connect the blue/white antenna wire to switch it on). theres nothing overly odd about the install. you just have to run the power line to the fuse box which is very easy on cobalts.

i ran my accessory wire for my deck to the power wire in the cigarrette lighter.. the cigarratee lighter has constant power so i just put a switch in with a 5 amp fuse. this way i can turn my radio on whenever i please without having my key in the ignition.

i used that, works and sounds beautifully and the onstar is still good. but if you dont have the pioneer, i dont you have an amp, you just need the 5 buck harness
