For those with ipods

For any of you guys that have ipods running through the car stereo.....where do you guys have them at in the car? My ipod is hard-wired into the stereo and the wiring comes through that bottom opening from the dash adapter, right below my cd player, so it is connected and as of right now I just set it in the cup holders. My gf got me that sticky pad deal to put it on for in the car but the only place I can think of to put it is on the dash and then have the wiring for the ipod going all over the place. Just wanted to see if there were any great ideas out there and to see what everyone else was doing with theres.

you can hook it up to the factory radio as well...

As far as mounting it goes...if you have the kit where you can control the iPod from the actual stereo, I'd just run the wires to the glove box and toss the iPod in there. Otherwise they make car holders for the iPod...or you could be REALLY cool and fiberglass something.

they make a kit to hardwire the iPod to your headunit. great sound quality...pretty easy to install. it's about $100 though. check out BestBuy...they sell them.

Yea, I have a panasonic headunit in right now...it is a cd/mp3 deal. I just ran an RCA - headphone jack plug type wire from the back of the unit and it plugs right into the headphone jack of my ipod. I went to radio shack to get it and a buddy of mine works there, and i was playing dumb just to see if he knows what hes talking about and he showed me these "Monster" cords that are designed specifically for ipods, and that one side is a set of RCA plugs and the other being a headphone jack plug, they were like 30-40 bucks I was like screw that, so I went back to the build-your-own wiring section and picked up a 3 foot cable, which is almost the same thing for about 6 bucks. The Monster cords were like 7 feet long too. 3 feet is plenty for what I need it for. So it reaches down to my cupholders and still has some extra slack in it.

I've been looking everywhere for an kit that would hook an ipod up to the stock head unit. Best Buy=No, Circuit City=No...even went through all of apple's recomendations and none of them are compatible with the cobalt. I'm definitely not Macgyver when it comes to electronics, but do you guys know of any sure fire names? thanks!

Read a little deeper and that's just a fancy FM modulator. Thanks for the look though.

did anyone ever find anything to tie the ipod and head unit together? fm modulators are terrible. i have one and it sucks. i rigged it and got better reception but yet it still blows. so all in all i'd just like wires.

Yes, the Harman Drive+Play will work if you have the XM option. You can hardwire the kit (no modulator) and also keep your XM

I installed it into my mine that way. It is the best solution available to date, but you are going to pay for it.

AI will release a GMLAN interface kit within a couple of months. You can always wait for that too...

Are you talking about a modulator or a transmitter. I've only heard good reviews of the modulator mentioned above. Most have said the sound is crystal clear. The way that one works is it switches off all the radio frequencies coming from your antenna and only allows input from an audio device such as your IPod. So you won't have any static or interference from any other stations. I was looking into this option earlier, I mentioned it in another thread. The transmitters on the other hand suck because they compete with the radio stations.

i think i'll wait for the gm kit. i have a sony cdxm800 with auxillery ports in it. i thought about putting that in but i honestly, i like the factory look. if anything i'd put a touch screen in place. i dont want an aftermarket deck because they stick out too much.

I ended up running the RCA underneath my steering wheel and over to the "hidden" compartment. I had to find a new place for my sunglasses but its all good. I like it in there real well. Dont have to worry about unplugging it when im done or having to hide it. And im the only one that can control it! haha.....thanks for the suggestion man
