Problem with my head unit

I have a Pioneer F700BT head unit and an iPhone 5. My problem is that when I connect my iPhone to my head unit to play music, after about 40 seconds the music stops playing as if I hit pause. This is happening every time just started recently. Any ideas as to what may be happening? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!!

i have the iPod connector form when I had my iPod touch. I bought an adaptor that goes from the old style connector to the lightning connector.
