Well you should actually add an amp as well because the stock amp is pretty whimpy. But if your wanted to replace just the sub you should swap it with a DVC 2 ohm setup. Normally you can bridge an amp to a single load and it would work perfect but im not sure with the stock amp (i have that feeling that its like Head units so u cant but i really dont know). If you wanted to try then get a single 4 ohm.

Help

Ok so I jsut got done installing a new headunit in an '05 with the pioneer system. The radio works fine but the cd player and other functions of the headunit do not. Do i need to hook the remote wire from the headunit harness to the pink wire in the stock harness? Or do I need to do something else?

no it means u wired the power antenna with the remote on the stock amp... so hook the blue white wire off the hu to the blue on the harness

basiclly swap the blue with the blue white on the hu harness

I just wanted to add that I have a 07 SS/SC with the xm radio and the GM ant. adapter did not fit on my car. However the Chrysler one did.

Also I saw there was no part number for the Metra Double single dash kit, The 95-3302 also acts as a double single as well as a double din kit.
http://documents.victorytechnologies...oduct/9476.pdf

If you scroll down to the install rather then dash removal instructions you will see it gives you instructions for both.
Thats my 2 cents

I didn't see the point in making this into its own thread, but would the difference between the basic head unit of an '08 and the upgraded one in the SS/sport '08 models make any difference in quality when putting in new speakers. I'm trying to maintain the stock look of my dash so I don't really want to install a new headunit, but if there's a noticable difference between the basic and the Pioneer ones I'm willing to find one of those and put it in.

very possible i would just suggest unplugging the stock 10 when u do so. Easiest thing to do is get a line out converter and splice the wires that go to the stock sub for signal. Then run power and ground direct to the battery and get your remote from the fuse box (fusetap the sunroof or wiper fuse)

I normally screw the amp to the back of the seat for convienence as well

Radio is turning off and on

Hi, just got my '06 cobalt 4 weeks ago and the only thing it didn't have was the mp3 radio. So out with that and in with my Alpine 9833 h/u. Along with that i hooked up my sirius radio adapter directly for the Alpines. then i figured i'd hook up my Memphis amp and diamond subs (dual 4ohm voicecoils bridged to 1 ohm). Got it all hooked up after buying the expensive metra harness (71-2103-1). At first i had a problem with the wire they labeled remote antenna which goes to the remote turn on lead off the h/u. I have a switch hidden under the dash to remotely turn off the amp if needed as well hooked off the remote turn on lead as well. All plays when the amp is switched off and when i turn it on and let it play decently loud the radio will shut off, then 5 seconds later turn back on. This is just the radio doing this not any other accessories. I'm stumped every new car i buy is another headache for installed a/v gear into, so i appreciate any help with this.

Alright guys, I'd like to bring back this discussion as well to see If I can get help for my installation.

I have a 07 SS/SC w/pioneer, w/o on-star. At this point I know that to keep my chimes I need the GMOS harness. So according to the FQA, I can get the cheaper harness to work but will loose the chimes.
I am going to install the AVIC-D3. At this point, I do not care about loosing the sounds BUT, if I go use the cheaper harness will the factory sub, speakers, and tweeters work with no problems? (this is my major concern) I bought the HU (slightly used), and comes with the cheap harness (installed in an 06), will this work for my 07? I see that the FAQ show two different part # for the harnesses, so my guess it won't. I searched for the first question but could not find a straight answer.

Any help will be greatly appreciated. I'm about to install the HU and don't want to find out that I need the expensive harness. If so, I will have to get it before I install the unit. Thanks!

BTW great FAQ.

no u dont need the expensive harness if u dont mind loosing the chimes but the harness u have the 06 is not the same as the 07. so u will need to order a harness at some point

since u have the pioneer system u will need to make sure to hook up the blue amp turn on from the car harness to the blue/white remote turn on from the pioneer. Also if u get the cheap harness u will need to do a fuse tap for the red acc wire but the gmos module wouldnt require that

Ok, I got a 06 base with no steering wheel controls, my buddy has an 07 base with steering controls, he got a aftermarket HU aside from unlocking the VIN theft lock is there any reason the 07 base HU wont just bolt right in to my 06. And yeah I heard bout the chimes, I can live with it for now til we rip my dash apart again to repaint it.

Also, will sound quality change?
