All I get there is that a few pins need to be swapped and steering controls wont work, aside from the theft deterent, I read the thread in its entirety but most of it was about the steering wheel controls.

From what i read it took quite a bit more then swapping some pins.... personally i wouldn't do it but if you do so just try to get as many aftermarket parts u need to prevent cutting anything up. get the normal 06 harness and 07 reverse harness

Reading through I don't think I read the answer to my question, so here goes.
I own an 08 LS. I recently had new speakers installed as well as a new amp. Sounds great except for the extremely loud chimes and particularly the turn signal click through the speakers. Is there any way to by-pass these vehicle "sounds" or at least turn them down? Its driving me crazy! Thanks.

At this point I don't dislike the stock HU, other than discovering how many vehicle information functions seem to be integrated into the wiring of the HU, and of course the annoyance of those amplified chimes and turn signal noises. I've had aftermarket sound systems in all of my vehicles since 1985. Up until '99, I always centered the system around a quality HU. My last three GM trucks I retained the factory HU and was more than satisfied with the functionality. They integrated near seamlessly with the basic aftermarket equipment installed (speakers, amps, subs). I'm old school in a way as I really don't care for the touch screen double-DIN head units of today's vehicles, both stock or aftermarket. I don't want to play DVDs or use navigation software, etc. I just like good clean sound. I replaced the LS factory speakers with Alpine Type R co-ax 6x9s in the rear and Pioneer Premier 6.5 co-ax's in the front and am powering it with an Alpine 4-channel amp. A factory SS Pioneer truck sub enclosure will be added soon to complete the sound stage I want. The installer at the shop told me there was a filter that could be installed that would eliminate the chime and clicker sounds, but that they were very expensive.

dont know about a filter but i had an idea that might possibly work and you would only be out like 10 bucks if it doesnt (but you would need the expensive wiring harness so if it doesnt work then you could just get an aftermarket deck and be done). Since the module harness replaces the factory chime sounds internally and doesnt pass them thru the unit itself you could buy one along with a reverse harness. Then wire up the reverse harness with the module harness and the chimes would be made by the module itself instead of going thru the speakers. Since you have the LS with no factory amp the only thing that could possibly go wrong is the stock deck getting pissed it doesnt get GM LAN signals/info. Fortunatly the cobalt has nothing intigrated with the stock stereo other then chimes for you 07+ guys so there is a good chance it wont mind. Something like this wouldnt work on something like a malibu. Mind you i pretty much pulled this idea out of my ass so while i think it would work i cant say for sure. You also probably could try this using the cheap harness as well but chimes would be lost all together and im less confident on it working.

Oh and it sounds to me like you need something along the lines of the pioneer 800prs (or 880prs) if you go aftermarket

Made a huge mistake by having aftermarket speakers installed... car leaks EVERY rain storm.

Are there any fit kits for the front doors on non pioneer cobalts? I've had enough problems with this car, and this one is a top problem that makes me want to get this POS crunched.

Found one on ebay... gonna give it a shot.

yup the pac is listed as one of the harnesses avail but its still 80 bucks but it is the module harness keeping all ur features

the 2202 is a saturn harness and it would work... the only thing that might be off is the speaker wires might be reversed (right to left) but i dont think thats the case

Thumbs up

Okay - I have an unusual story. I was looking for a harness so that I could try to install this equipment I have this weekend (p6800dvd). The short of the long is I ran into the scosche gm21sr in the process and was going to get that since it works with the 2007+ Cobalt. When I went to pick it up at bestbuy the installer said they'd drop in my unit for $50 (before he learned it was a double-din, price went up etc, that's not important).

Anyway, I couldn't make the appointment so I called to cancel today and the rep I spoke to said that the cobalt ss with the pioneer system + amps won't work with any available harnesses. He said he had to hardwire after all the amps under the dash etc etc.

So I called scosche and they said he was correct they didn't have anything for the pioneer systems - CURRENTLY. However, he said check back in a week because they were releasing a new GM13SR harness that works with the pioneer system we have as stock radio in the cobalt ss 2008 and I assume it would work for 2009.

Anyway, apparently the upgraded pioneer system requires a different harness setup than the stock HU. I'll post back if I hear anything else.

JK

in the middle of installing a ddx7015 w/ a gmos-lan-03 harness, i have a problem and need some help with a couple of wires. i have some wires that im puzzled with because i dont know where they need to go. it is an orange, orange/white, green, green/black which are off the 30pin. please help! thanks

edit: the orange and green wires do not say dimmer or speaker, they are marked with an ohm. there is a white 14pin that already had the orange/white which was marked dimmer that i solder together.

30 pin should have your dimmer/ill wires and speaker wires. the green and green purple off the 14 pin are the parking brake/ reverse wires

just thought i'd add in, for the light dim, a cap will also help, and is usually cheaper than a new battery, a 1 ferrad will do wonders for your system and they are very easy self install.

i disagree on the cheaper part. normally caps are more expensive then a regular battery but cheaper then an AGM sealed. But the battery i recommend is cheaper then your normally priced cap and AGM

true enough, but a stinger or rockford 1 ferrad can run you about 80 - 100$
optima or other battery in the range would be 150+ if I am not mistaken... I dunno either or works though, thought i'd mention it for those who may want to go that road
