damn it. I think my wife accidentally trow away my letter.
can I print one from somewhere? Or they should just run my vin # to see it on the recall list?

running the VIN will shw it, also dont get the preliminary letter confused with the actual letter

you dont even need the letter, when i brought mines in i ask them if they wanted to see the letter and they said no and they didnt even run my vin, they just took it in and changed the motor.

Did they have to take out your steering column to replace electric power steering motor, or do you know for sure ?

It's official for me...I got my letter from GM telling me that my car has a recall for the power steering. It also said that I would receive another letter once the local dealership had the part(s).

Put mine in a little more than a week ago - didn't get the second letter telling me to go - I talked to the dealer, and he just had me bring it in. That, plus some standard maintenance, and it was out in a half day.

I also complained about the rear brake issue (my 09's rear discs looked like trash with just 6k on them ). They just turned the rotors and made them pretty. I'll be waiting for the recall on that next....

This just happened to me last night i have an 09 cobalt ss with 13000 miles. I'd turn the car off and let it sit hoping it would reset. within 30 seconds of driving again the power steering would fail. awesome. they better have time to do it tomorrow morning

ive been without power steering for about a month now. i talked to 3 local chevy dealerships and they pretty much told me i was **** out of luck without a letter. and since i just bought my ss n october of last year i knew my letter was far from coming soon. well i have family in the dealership and at least got it in to b looked at and take the vin and look it up. he told me that even though they recalled 3.1 mill cobalts, that isnt all of them. not all cobalts are covered under this recall. which is super gay. thank the lord, my vin was on there and m appoinment is friday morning to get it fixed. after a month with no power steering it gonna feel like a whole different car

not so.

I bought mine February 19th.

Before I paid cash I found the official list of cars with recalled ps units;
(this was before the big recall, and regrettably I didn't save it ~ since then that info has been removed from the net)
My car was not on the old list of suspected vins.

I received my (first) letter a couple weeks ago.

I drove a Malibu at work the other day that this happened to.. It was the 2002 style (before the new one), LTZ, V6.. Was this one of the cars on this recall too by chance, because the power steering was ALL fucked up.. If you weren't moving, you were not moving the steering wheel - AT ALL..
