Does the LS model have ABS?
I was wondering cause I have a friend who ended up sliding into a ditch doing the speed limit on a ramp and when he was trying to slow down, his brakes literally locked up on him...but especially his rear end just slid from behind him.
He's ok, no body damage but his rear tires are done and he messed up his radiator.

He will just have to learn how to manuliplate the brakes so they don't lock. When they lock, you go stright no matter how far you turn the wheel. And from what I have been told, drum brakes lock up easier than disc.

My LS doesn't have it either. I realized it when this stupid lady pulled out in front of me and stopped in middle of the road and I skidded 30 ft. Before that incident, the dealer told me that I did have ABS when I was buying. I guess it's alright. At least I know now.

Actually I think for the 2007's the 1LS is the lowest model and there is no more base, they now instead have three models of LT, the second of which offers ABS. So, in 2007 - you have for ABS
LS - optional
1LT - optional
2LT - SS/SC - Standard
Oh, and on the statement above, the 2LT is the first car with MSRP over $15k.

I think ABS is often misunderstood. It allows to to retain steering control control.
ABS will sometimes breifly lock up, say on ice--but you can always steer--hopefully your way out of hitting something. You still have to thik and drive sanely--ABS is not an exuse to get out of that.

I manage a collision center and can tell you that statement is correct. Something else I thought I might add is that drum brakes actually provide more stopping power than disc brakes, but they cannot dissapate heat nearly as well. That's why discs are preferred.
