New Balt

So last week I rear ended a chevy Tahoe. Needless to say, he had some minor scuffing and my Balt was a complete loss. 05 Ss/Sc with 117k miles. I put on maybe 3k since I bought it a year ago. The accident was a blessing in disguise I think.

I bought it for $3100 but it was falling apart. Bad door latches, tranny was grinding, interior was tore up, belt was squeaking, tensioner was incredibly stiff ( so I couldn't change belt). Sunroof switch didn't always work. Weatherstrip on drivers door was leaking. Something was going on with the throttle (idled at 1200rpm). Also, I noticed the front wheels spun when I had it idling up on blocks in neutral... cant explain that... Had the notorious clicking behind the glove box. Left side e brake line siezed so I had to disconnect. Of course, none of this was noticeable until after I bought off craigslist.

Geico is giving me just under 5k. I wanted to buy a decent replacement for cheap and put the difference as down payment for new car for wife.

My my question is this. I found some balts for sale. Current contender is the following. I'm just a bit afraid of the mileage. Any advice?

Cuz $5k won't get an lnf

Seems like a decent price. Anything for $3-4k in an ss will have plenty of miles...

Ya, price. TC is just too much.

Im just hesitant about the 170k. With that many miles, what would I have to worry about?

Or should I just go for one with less miles?

I think mostly suspension parts. All the mounts are likely shot, LCA bushings, possibly struts themselves. Don't know much about the supercharger itself, could need a revamp of some sort.

Okay. At what point would I need to worry about rebuilding the engine or transmission? How long do these engines and transmissions last? Also, is there a 6-speed transmission that is swappable with ours (I read something about the f40 vs our f35, but wasn't sure).

Sorry, I only drove it for about 3000 miles and didn't have to worry about any of that.

The 6 speed would cost more than you are wanting to spend on entire car. Any decent tuner type car with mileage over about 30,000 will probably need things. You never know how they have been treated or what's wrong with them. $3k won't buy you much of anything anymore that's decent. Decent used cars are now up in the $6-$8k range.
