they can. its not right IMO, but they can. where i live the cops dont really care. i have dark ass license plate covers that you cant even see through, illegal tint including the windshield, tinted tails and a bunch of other stuff. they dont bother me

No ticket, just an advisory. Also he asked me about the new vests they wear. They have new built in refelctive vests with LEDs built into them. I think they are a good idea. Make him more visible safer so thats what I told him. He asked about glare/ blinding from the LEDS, I told him the patrol car lights and his flashlight are more blinding then the little blue LEDs.

they do that **** hoping to smell weed or alcohol. its just a reason to pull u out of the car and search it. when i was younger they used to pull me over for all kinds of dumb ****. the best was my license plate was too dirty.

I'm pretty sure its a law in every state that your license plate must be readable from a certain amount of feet. So it can't have a dark tinted cover, be too dirty or covered with road salt in the winter, or have a bulb out. Blame all the delinquents and drug dealers. Its the reason those laws are in place.
I've been pulled over for a tinted cover and got like a $75 fine for it...no probs though I just took it off and ordered one of the sweet black plates that we have available here so it worked out in the end.

You guys are funny. Cops are all bad until you need them right?
A bulb out is a great reason to be pulled over. Guess what? That's how they catch a lot of people with drugs and warrants out.
And if you're driving with just your fogs on when headlights should be used you have no place to complain about getting pulled over.
You didn't say you got a ticket, so get over it. Would you rather have your police force disbanded and have no one to help you when someone breaks into your house? There's a lot of worse things that can happen in life, you should appreciate law enforcement, and yes there are some bad eggs out there.

I got pulled over leaving a parking lot, bya cop sitting in the parking lot.
According to him, he didn't think I had a plate.
I looked at where he was, and where I was when I pulled out, and asked him, "So, you looked directly West into the setting sun at the back of my car, and thought I didn't have a plate? I'm surprised you could see the car."
He agreed that he got sunblinded. I even offered to take the tinted cover off the plate, and he was all nah, is cool.
Of course, he ran my plate and license for 10 minutes trying to find something on me...silly fuzz.

the worst one i had was last winter, i was on my way to work from my ex-girlfriends house, it was just after 2am on a Saturday and snowing a decent amount. I'm driving down the road and pass a cop going the other way, he turns around and turns his lights on. i pulled over. He came to the window and asked for my papers, and where i was comming from. i told him my ex GF and that i was on my way to work (mind you i was in my uniform and had my lunch box on the passenger seat). I asked why i was pulled over and was told, "we had reports about you" and then procedes to ask again where i was comming from, i repeated myself and was then told to stop lying cuz he could see my eyes were dialated and glazed over...come on its dark and your pointing a f***ing flashlight in my face plus i just woke up 15 min. ago what would you expect.....long story short, i sit their almost 30 minutes untill another cop shows up, they talk for a bit, then cop #2 comes over says, "we thought you were someone else, your free to go."
It wouldnt have been the worst thing in the world but i told the cop i was going to be cutting it close on making it to work with the roads...

I got stopped for a blown plate bulb a couple weeks back. The worst part was trying to change the thing. Not sure what they did when they built my car but it was almost as if the freaking bulb was GLUED into the socket or something. I had to use plyers and a thin metal file to scrape all the bits of it out.

cops don't give a **** if your license plate bulb is out...they're looking for something else when you get that reason
the time that happened to me the cop checked my ID and let me go...didn't ask for anything else
