is there a way to change the Odometer reading

Most modern cars have two odometers. One in the dash and another somewhere else - usually in the ECU. The two odometers have to match. Otherwise the car flags it as a problem

Is there a way or anything people can do that has a lease?

I know the older cars with Digital dash had a chip you could swap as the reading was all stored there as well as some people added a cut off switch for the cluster?

Isn't screwing with the odometer incredibly illegal?

Yes it can be done, but is very ilegal, as others have said...If the OP is asking about doing it to a lease, my first guess would be he's real close to going over his miles, and is about to start getting charged out the ass for them. My second guess would be that he isn't over his miles, but he's coming up on trade-in time, an lower miles will get him some cash back

I've never heard of dealers giving cash back for under miles.
