Weatherstripping (?) between hood and windshield mostly gone?

Sorry if there is a thread that mentions this, but I didn't know what to search because I don't know what this would even be called. Here are the pics.

You can see where there is very little of the black weatherstripping between the plastic piece and the windshield. How do I fix it? Is it even necessary to fix it, other than aesthetics? Sort of disturbing that I can get fingers under the glass, but maybe that's normal and I've just never seen a car do that before?

It's probably a good idea to replace that, it doesn't keep water out persay. But it does keep other larger debris out to keep water from puddling.

I found a diagram with that part in it, #7 here, but no part number was associated with it.

Another with the same part but no associated part number.

Whale crap. How would you suggest replacing it, then?

Contact a dealership and see if they can order one. There's got to be some way to get that replaced, hopefully just that part alone and not have to buy the whole tray.

It'll probably come as a whole. But it\d be simple to change. Just mark where your wipers go with strips of tape before removing them.

Try checking a wrecker.

I wonder if I could find some generic black weatherstripping that would fit the bill.

All of our nearby salvage yards are now you-pull-it, "we might have one or two of those cars" type affairs now, and have been for years. Basically useless. Also, It seems like a bad idea to replace something that literally just rotted away with another piece that can't be any newer.

Generic weatherstripping isn't going to work the same as the OEM part. You could slap some electrical tape up there, but we know that won't work either.

Mine is moving quite a bit. Was yours moving before you replaced it (not sure to what extent it was burned)? Also, did you replace the metal clip, 22, as well? I know 22 is a goner. There is a rattle, and I'm not sure if it's coming from 22 being worn out, or crap being caught wherever that hole, which was left by the top weatherstripping, goes. Also, did you have access to that area with the 9 removed, to clean out, or did it just reveal another hole that you couldn't easily get into?

Also, YelloEye, thank you for hunting down the diagram.

I would never suggest using that stuff to fix a car, for anything.
