When Your Rack and Pinion Breaks like this:


You need to know how to remove it and install a new one!

Here's the How To: with pics!


STEP 1
Jack up the front end of the car and SUPPORT WITH JACKSTANDS! Remove both front wheels.

STEP 2
Mark the relationship of the tie-Rod end to the threaded portion of the Tie-Rod to ensure the Toe-in setting is restored when reassembled(if you are re-using origional Rack and Pinion). Remove both Tie-Rod ends from the Steering Knuckles. Replace nuts back on Tie- Rod ends once removed so you don't lose them.



STEP 3
Mark the relationship of the U-Joint to the Steering Gear Input Shaft(if re-using origional rack and pinion). Remove the bolt from the U-Joint that secures it to the Steering Gear Input Shaft.



From under the car, Use a large flat head screw driver and lightly tap the U-joint upwards to disconnect it from the Steering Gear Input Shaft. After separated return bolt into U-joint so you do not lose it.

STEP 4
Remove both Steering Gear Bolts(you will need a breaker bar). It is also recommended that you remove the transaxle mount. I didn't, I found it was just as easy do all of this with it still mounted.




Once the Bolts are removed the Rack and Pinion will slide out of the Driver side Wheel Well.

STEP 5(installation)

repeat steps 1-5 in reverse.

Be sure to tourqe down all the nuts and bolts with exact specs noted in the pictures!
