I would think the MAF would die before you'd hydrolock as well.

This is true BUT Injen offers a hydrosheild to add to their CAI. So if anyone is going to buy the injen i recommend getting the hydrosheild as well; more so if you live in a very wet area.

Has anyone had experience or thoughts concerning GM's performance air intake vs. alternative systems?

Cheers

Sounds like the right dimensions to me.

Say... I did this mod on my buddy's car over the weekend... he had this wierd lip around where the filter sits... we had to break some of it off so we could get a wrench in there to tighten the bolt on the hose clamp.

The lip inside my airbox wasn't anywhere near this big.

I just did this mod tonight, bought the 1009 k&N filter, I've had k&N on all my cars before even though GM said it would screw up the map sensor. Never had a problem before, map sensor is a lot closer to filter then previous cars but I did not oil it since it's new. I disconnected the battery to clear the learned trip values before the filter replacement. I will drive it tommorow and see if my cel comes on.

Drove in to work this morning, can't belive I'm awake after 3 hours of sleep. Car sounded great, really screamed especially at around 10 psi of boost. Did really get to test out speed difference but a defenite accleration difference. Its as good as any other time I've installed a whole cold air intake system but for a quarter the price. Great mod, Thanks, oh yeah and no cel with about a 40 mile comute.

I used a regualar hose clamp with a philips screw driver and all I had to do what drill a hole instead of breaking pieces of the lip off. I took pictures of it but just have not had time to post them, and for the water issue the water would have to be over a foot deep which is just nuts if your driving through that in a cobalt you would have more of and issue with your exhausted being restricted before you suck up water through you filter. Filter may get wet but the water would have to be up to where the filter seals around the neck of the intake tube. I have not gotten a CEL light, driven over 150 miles now, don't think I will get one either, I drove it really hard yesterday so if it was gonna suck up any oil on the the maf sensor it would have done it by now, just don't over oil your filters and you should be good to go.

Ok so i finnally got some courage and am going to buy the AEM dryflow filter lol. I just have one question, from what i understand with this filter no cutting or drilling to the airbox is needed its only clamped in if so ill have to do is tighten the clamp rite? If tahts it im ordering it 2morrow (finnally).

ya its honestly self explanitory , soon as u take it apart u will see how to put it back together.. u can drill a hole on the bottom of the case of the filter to have more air come in and more sound to come out.. but thats up to u.. some people cut the whole bottom off, but do what ever u want bro.

Well, you should know that the stock filter does not clamp on, so you need to buy your own clamp and you will need to drill a hole in the airbox to be able to tighten/loosen the clamp.

You don't have to drill that hole in the airbox... you can actually fit a small ratchet up in there to turn the bolt. The hole just makes it easy to use a screwdriver.

which may end up being the longest part of the install

Oh bah Photo :P If I had known there was a lip in there we could have broken it off in the first place LOL. In either case, the hole drilled would have had to be through that lip too. I just think Carlos had a wierd airbox.
