I doubt the stock amp would be damaged by hooking a different sub direct to it but it would be quiet as hell since the stock amp doesn't put out much power. FYI the stock sub is a standard dual voice coil 2 ohm sub that handles around 50 watts.
That is why the best thing to do is run the stock sub signal left and right into an amp with hi level inputs like I did. Saves you the need to get a hi level to low level converter and has less things to go wrong.

holy dead thread revival, batman! the switch is definately cool for the mom or dad who wants to kill the amp.
as for turning on the amp w/ the car, you can totally hookup the remote wire of any amp to any fuse that gets power in acc or run. then the amp turns on and off w/ the car, no switch needed.
For those that wanna add any amp for either internal speakers or subs, use that fuse #18 as bansaw suggested and then you won't need a switch.
as for turning down the bass, some sub amps have remote bass knobs like what i had with my old RF Punch amp. Turn the knob, lower the bass, life is good. also helps control sub bass when you raise and lower the bass settings in the stock HU. IF your system isn't tuned with test tones and your sub bass is much louder or quieter than the midbass from your inside speakers, and you adjust the bass on the HU, you'll effectively change your sub bass as well. A seperate knob for the sub amp only is a great feature to have. Good to know for any1 wanting to upgrade
