Another FNG from Dallas area

Great site. After reading so many of the posts here i know there are some good, very good, & excelent Cobalt folks around.
Hope to fit in as a novice with a little more than a pipe wrench, pliers, and ball peen.
So far, i,have managed to
1: change out the summer pink air for all year green air in the tires
2: verified and refilled the blinker fluid in the 4th tail light
and
3: sucessfully repacked muffler bearings in 3 different types af vehicles including
a electric trucks
b dual equestrian drawn war carriages
c A high performance SNAP-27 powered off road vehicle
So please excuse me for asking some rather NooB questions... After all I'm still just trying to learn how to deal with some of the Cobalts less documeted fratures.

And again to all. Many thanks! So now on to my first request for guidance

I had to remove the tint from doors & windshield to pass TX inspection.

Thanks folks.
Just got this BC and put a +120 mi run on it this AM.
One tire pressure monitor was not picked up by the TMS. The LF. Discount tire was about $20 high but still worth it. I did learned how to get it into relearn mode.

And OH MY!
I gotta replace the struts & shocks. Wheel hop and shutter. Plus there's a nasty rattle RF. Sounds like loose link. Plan on pulling the RF tire and find out. LF looks like new pads.
While I'm here can some one tell me where the antenna is routed?
Looks like some one had an antenna fight and the BC lost.
Noticed an off bread antenna plugging the hole with about 3'-5' of coax hard connected to it just stuffed into the trunk. Found whats left of the original at the bottom of the rear seat back. So i know the original antenna lead should be around.
Just dont know if its routed left, right, center, or up. I just dont know this car...Yet....but it is fun to drive and managed a good +30mpg
It started out saying range 275 miles on my first fill up.
At the end of the trip, saying 299 miles before the fill @$1.74/.9 ......I LIKE IT!
13x Miles on 4.0 gals ...not bad...not bad. Beats my F-150 5.4L with a 411.
One last item now. Just received a new leather steering wheel with all controls. So a wiring we shall go.....
And i might even be able to get front speakers working on the mp3 at the same time. So stay tuned.
And thanks for the GREAT Southern Hospitality.

Expecting to need to install the 4 wires in clock spring. Have not verified pin 61 on BCM-C2
So need to have the pins and wire ready before i start.

Right now searching for info on installing fe5 links on LS. Im expecting rattle is one of the RF link ends.

Not verified yet. Also looking up diff between 05-07 SS struts vs 08- i understand theres a diff.

The best upgrade is FE5 control arms, with 2008+ FE5 shocks and struts with corresponding endlinks

Just sent an email off john @ powell asking for is price for the 4 parts and his thoughts of the 250mm long FE5 end links on the FE1 sway bar.
After pulling the RF wheel, what i see is fresh pads used end links and oily film.
Just a little more than i would expect. Could be just road grime or that strut was blown some time ago.
There is a noticeable rattle as in no oil in the strut RF.
So more fun to come.

Recap
FE5 link ends (MOOG K750012) on LS sway bar??? Yes No will brake?
This is a 4 lug hub LS (disks & drums) and i have not eyeballed an ABS power poster yet.

Ah yes. Sorry about that
I first fount the, at rock auto then the mevotech dot com site.
They list 2 that look like forged AL lca with their higher end using phosphted hdw and sales pitch.
They claim they are for FE3.

I cant see any need for 08 FE5 lca due to the different knuckel.

I have decided the R strut is blown.
So i am going to order the FE5 delco struts & shockes with a pair of moog 250mm FE5 end links.
Mounting onto my 08 LS FE1 suspension.
Once i get a FE 5 swaybar set and a set of springs, ill rebuild my new struts installing the new spring cushins rings and other parts needed that immissed in the first strut replacement

So i am now on my second read of all you wanted to know about
FE 1 2 3 4 5 suspensions and brakes here on css.ne staring Maven and a list of other members.

Intresting read and still have not seen the answer
FE5 end links on FE1 sway bar....good bad or eek dont do it
And at 113k mi
I bet the coutrol arms could be rebushed at a min and the ball joints should be adressed.

I hane been looking at
Doorman
Mas
Mevotech
And delco
Staying away from 08 SS/TC due to differents in steering knuckle and i got,a quick read on one post from
Maven. The 1/2 shaves/axels ar different between SSTC/LS

Ok so the knuckle isnt an issue if you use the arms that you posted. Those include the ball joint and control arm bushings

The FE5 struts off the SS are a solid upgrade and will work with your factory knuckles and the moog end links

The knuckle is only an issue for the ball joint diameter, which you ordered the mevotech for the 05-07 suspension with the smaller diameter

Ok let the fun begin
Shocks, struts links and LCAs ordered.
Wondering how to get penetrating oil up into the lca bushing now. Is it even possible?

Why are you fearing the subframe bolts are stuck? Is it a northern car?

Well car fox said it spent a couple or 3 years in houston san antonio area then an extended visit to tampa. Then back to dallas area via ebay for a total of 113k mi in 8 yr.

Squirted water displacement formula 40 around the bushings. A sloppy, dont expect a lot, drenching, but maybe it MIGHT a little.

Ps just received message shocks struts links and LCAs are in the mail.
Also testing radio,...BC seems to have been in an antena fight and lost.
Generic antenna stuck in hole with ~3'-5' cheap coax danfling inside trunk.

At least it was visible.
Oem coax neetly ripped out of whip tucked inside lining.
Stripped about 1' of plastic outter plastic and pushed braid back over the outter casinf.
Trimmed abour 1/2" inner on both coac ends and twisted cenner conductors together in a western electric inline splice.
Wrapped inner with scotch tape.
Undolded outer braid over making a continous outter shielf and more scotch tape.....couldnt find my black pvc tape.
Suprise suprise suprise....it works. At leas doe a dqy or so. Picked up fm stations 60-ish miles away.
Reasonable. Now loking for a perminant fix using original antenna and coax. Im not expecting locating a good one to be a show stopper.

Adventures with JC Whitney

So
I have decided, righ wrong, or indifferent to get delco FE5 shocks, struts, cheap 250mm links and what appears forged LCAs. (MEVOTECH CMS50173)
Checking all of the usual suspects. I finaly came up with the total delivered price @ $550 at my door step.
Could be much more might be a little less.
Ive used JCW for many years. Along with eastwood, there are some very useful items that are quite difficult to find elsewhere.
Never the less, JCW states they will price match AND free shipping on orders over $50 bucks.
Hey one strut or the delco FE5 shockes will dent a $50 is short order. So i called jcw and asked about their price match.
They said WHY Surw. Whacha looking for.
I Gave them the delco 506-683 and he went off,
He came back stating ok you want a cobalt strut how many @ + $125.
I said just 1 but i have more including one 506-684 and a pair of 560-582 shocks.
Btw, i have more and offered a soft copy of my rock auto shopping cart.
Bottom line. After 10 min he finaly come back and states
they dont even buy their shocks as low as this and at the price of ths struts, they cant make their 15%
So we cant offer you what we printed...A price Match excluding ebay, amazon, close out..normal expected and reasonable exclusions.

The end result, i want to support jcw but the rock got my hard earned money.
Now
Your Mileage Will Vary but it does pay, to shop.
Now if i can only remember which end of the strut goes up. And at the rear end, does it go inside or outside the gas tank strap...I'll be fine
