My Official Check-In 2010 Cobalt SS/TC

Hi everyone. My name is Dave. I am from St. George, UT and I am officially the owner of a 2010 Cobalt SS in Blue. I am very excited and happy to be a member of this community. I have been very impressed by the power and responsiveness by my little turbocharged I4. Can't wait for the adventures that lie ahead!

I wanted something fast, sporty and well fuel efficient. I tried Camaros, but they just didn't win me over. I was really close to getting a Chevy SSR, but I wanted a back seat. Then I drove a 2006 Cobalt SS/SC. I loved it, but I didn't jump on it. I waited for a long time until I found my baby, a 2010 SS/TC with 17k on her. I had it ordered and shipped without even seeing it. The rest is history!

Thanks for the welcome - As for build plans IDK, I am thinking about putting a GM Stage 1 kit on it, but it's hard to decide...Suggestions?

i would go with a different tune besides GMS1, but the MAP sensor that comes with the kit is nice. IDK how you feel about cars but i absolutely love my catless downpipe with the stock catback, also i would highly suggest getting a K&N drop in air filter to replace the stock air filter, cause the stock one is CRAP it is the same one they put in the base model cobalt

Well, mine sure isn't stock...maybe I already have something. Haha I'll post a pic. I'd love some help. I've been a mechanic for years, but I'd never touched a turbo before this car...

Do you know if it is tuned or not? If it is tuned it will normally boost over 20psi at wide open in any gear but 1st. Stock tune will generally boost around 15psi at sea level and a little higher in higher elevations. Skip the GM stage 1 kit and you likely do not even need the 3 bar MAP sensors it comes with.
Just get a good tune done by someone who actually cares about tuning the car.

Hahn intake Injen charge pipe. Get rid of those worm clamps and get T-bolt clamps. Also Hahn intake needs the MAF retuned properly for it.

Thanks for all of your help. Really, I appreciate it! I am willing to accept any advice that you can give me. I am working right now, but I'll take pics when I get off.

So, what do I need to adjust besides the clips? Is it bad to have the stock MAP?

Also, I have been surprised by how much gas this thing chugs, is that normal? Thanks guys. You are the best...Loving owning my 'balt.

Stock maps are good to 23-24 psi. I used to get 27-30 MPG with mine.

Thanks. I have no problem keeping it stock for a while then. I'm getting like 22-24 mpg...It's alright, I mean I'll live. haha.

So, I need to adjust my intake and put better brackets on it...What else it an absolute must at the moment?

You need a proper tune for your intake which will help your fuel mileage and performance.

I'd get a mild tune so you can adjust the maf in that hahn intake and if you stay out of boost you'll get better MPG too.. that's if. So right now do you hit 15-17psi or in the 20s?

Right now I hit around 15-18. Where can I get a good tune? Is it risky at all?

You can buy HP Tuners or see if a friend has it near you. It depends on what you want you can go easy or all out to the extremes. I daily drove my car for years on 22psi until I bought that bigwheel turbo. But the MAF needs to be calibrated to that pipe so the ECU gets an accurate reading on the incoming airflow into the engine

Thank you for the explanation, that makes a lot more sense. I need to use it as a Daily Driver and so I'm not going to be doing anything extreme with it at all. Thanks for all the help. You guys rock.

Not really if your tuner knows what he is doing and your car is mechanically sound. If you buy your own hp tuners you can get a remote tune from anywhere via the internet. Technology is great LOL.

How much did you pay for a 2010 with that low a miles?
Do you have the G85 option? (limited slip) check in the trunk under the mat on the drivers side all the codes of your car options etc....look for G85.

Not a modification but more like a upgrade is the Powell Seperator, ....it basically prevents coking of the intake valves. They get pretty rank on these cars....since they have direct injection. Its kinda like a catch can on roids...which these cars need. Catch cans ..dont catch crap on these cars....
