After replacing my control arm bushings today I was rather mad to see when unbolted the control arm rubber just fell out leaving the metal still pressed in.

Im starting to hear some noise from my front end as well.. Im at 46k. If its the control arm bushing I will let gm replace them then just buy fe5 arms with powell cabs and sell off the fe3 pieces to an fe1 guy.
Exactly what I told you was going to happen when I replied to you @ gminsidenews.
Mine are clunking away like nuts.. I have to do them in the spring.. I really don't see a need for those fancy spherical ones, OEM is just fine.
The only problem with OEM is they are not made for the wheel hop that most of us tend to get. A few times will kill them.

you have a base cobalt? the SS ones have upgraded control arms. And how many miles do you have? idk I think its a common problem on base models.
I had my driver side replaced when I took it in for the power steering recall. It turns out the entire bushing had fallen out some time ago and was the cause of the clunk in my front end, and not a bent rim like me dad was trying to convince himself of. In the end, $400 and a new bushing and control arm later, the car feels better then when I bought it from the dealer in the first place.
They do have upgraded aluminum control arms ,but it's the same design as the stamped steel ones on the base cobalt, and the control arm bushing is the same, I think.

It's soo common on base models everyone of them with 30,000+miles always has leaking struts and bad control arm bushings I see it everyday
