Jerky First Gear

I just got my cobalt ss and I've found that first gear gets extremely jerky around 3000rpm. I obviously know how to drive a manual but I've never owned my own manual car until now, so could it just be because I'm new to driving manual? Or what's up? I read to try cleaning the throttle body and maf. Any suggestions or thoughts?

Define jerky?

Like a problem with how it runs?

Video?

I guess it's more of a surging. It'll be fine up until 3000 rpm and then it'll start surging. But just in first gear. I'm not sure how to explain it. I'll try to post a video in the morning if that'll help

It's just a touchy gear for everyone. You'll get used to it.

I generally shift around 3.5k and have the rev match appearly down because it's never jerky. I dont drop the clutch I just ease it out.

Although potential issue is actually the tune, if the timing isn't a nice and smooth ramp between load ranges it can be jerky

I know exactly what you're talking about. I just picked up an '05 SS off a friend, and I noticed it as well. If I want to coast slowly, like say in a parking lot I have to immediately shift into 2nd, 'cause once I let my foot off the gas while in 1st, the car jerks terribly.

All my vehicles have been manual, and before the SS I had an '02 Alero 5 speed and could coast slow in 1st all day long.

I'm figuring the jerkiness could be due to the TB requiring cleaning, I've also noticed the idle going extremely low and almost stalling.

Its how the car is ... nothing is going to fix it besides you learning how to get your right and left foot into sink.

Welcome !

Welcome !
It helps if you sit on the counter first, and then rotate your legs up and in.
