Lean code on a stock car
I am not sure that this is the right section, but this morning on my way to work I threw a code, I went to Autozone and checked out the code and its a lean code. My car is bone stock has anyone else threw a lean code on a stock car? and does anyone have any insight on why? I plan on takin it to the dealership tomorrow but want some peace of mind that this isnt my fault.
Thanks in advance for any help

Happened to me twice.
It's not your fault.
They'll read the code, kick the tires, check your connections, but won't find anything. They'll reset it and tell you they tightened something.

There is a bulletin out for stock setups regarding this code. It has various opinions on what throws the code from wrong filter numbers to the pleats on the filter being tightly packed which causes the airflow around the MAF sensor to be misread. The dealer will most likely check to see if the bolt has rubbed through the snorkel tube in the engine bay, tighten all connections, and possibly turn the filter 180 degrees. These are GM's solutions to the problem. I threw the lean code with my K&N and the dealer showed me the bulletin to show that it is a common malfunction as well as what GM is doing to correct it.

I had this about 4500 - 5000 miles. took it in and they did what MarcS said.
I am now just getting into problems with me car idleing funny. only if I am stopped at a light or something. it drops way down then goes up and down. no problems with idleing at all now at 9000 miles it starts.

This is wierd, some of you are getting this code with a stock car. I on the other hand was running lean for a few days and never got any code and i have never got a code exept for once with my air box mod. Is my car a factory code freak?

Actually I see this happen at the shop all the time. Gm is having a lot of problems with cobalts throwing a P0171 code. At the moment there is no fix for it, according to the bulletin. Just wait it out, and GM will come out with a reflash...hopefully.
