New Oversized Tensioner rubbing

I'm on a 2.6 pulley.. My old oversized tensioner pulley started to make noise so I was replacing it and the new pulley rubbed on the top of shock below it.. Does anybody know what would cause this? The new pulley is exactly the same as old one and the old one never rubbed

Is it on backwards? I believe they are offset if my memory serves me correctly.

Why would the oversize pulley have an offset? The stock pulley doesn't have an offset. One would think putting an offset pulley of a bigger diameter in it's place would cause a belt misalignment. In OP's situation it sounds like he is rubbing on the top of the actual vertical tensioner. If this is the case I would think the pulley has to be bigger because the only dimension that should cause that is pulley diameter.

Are you sure the pulley's are the exact same diameter? Is it a light rub or does it prevent the whole pulley from spinning?

its an aftermarket piece not made for the lsj the pulley could also have a design change or even have been made incorrectly

Offset in the axial direction would cause alignment problems though wouldn't it? Aftermarket or not it doesn't sound like that would be the correct part to use if it has that type of offset.
