i have to check my head in the garage to see if i have the same marks. mine puffs some smoke if i let it idle for extended periods of time. which either leads me to the guides or seals.

If you took the oil cap off the car while it was running after a min or so did you see anything come out? Such as a steam/vapor?

hip, after 3 sets of cams and 63k miles. my stock head with springs looks way worse than that. majority of the damage came from the gmr cams when it torched the lash adjusters.

Well I know it's kinda late but I have build quite a few engines and I allways ran convential oil for the first 1k did a oil change at 500 and after 1k then switched to syntheic. Just for break-in , also syntheic is soo good at preventing wear that it won't let a engine break in. I had a buddy who bought a brand new Subaru and they told him he has to break in the engine no hard pulls no wot and a 500 mi oil change then every 3k so gm just does not tell you because most of them don't givE two *****. On a nother note I change my oil evey 3 k no matter what even if the oil % meter is at 50 % I still do it Because oil get old and breaks down I smell it and look at it every time I fill up

mine was doing that towards the last days before i tore it down. drive threws or anytime idle for like 5 min as soon as i would give it some gas to take off it would puke out a puff of blue smoke and then clear up immediately.

damn those cams took a beating, lol.

I was talking about the retainers in my pics. they have a shiney ring on the outer edge. when the valve was in the full closed position the rocker arm was resting/chattering on the top of the retainer on the outer edge (making contact) this isnt normal at all, i was gonna clearence the underside of the rocker arm so it doesent touch anymore. have you ever seen that before? some are touching some are not. i would only have to take a quick pass with the dremel.
