Sudden Gas Milage problem
My G/f has a 2.2 cobalt, 8,000 miles on it and as she was going to work today the gas milage just died on her....She filled up yesterday drove all of 40 miles and now has less than half a tank. She said it drove normally but she could watch the gas gauge fall as she was going....thought it was really strange...filled up at a BP.....I don't know if its bad gas, could it be something else?

Ech, thats less than 6mpg. Something definitely awry, I was going to suggest it's running richer due to the frigid temps, but not at 6mpg.
I get about 270 miles to a tank here in my LS, driving pretty hard, mostly city-- temperatures anywhere from 20-55 in a single day... not quite sure what would cause 6mpg, though.

Definately get that checked... I believe that there is a TSB out for problems with the fuel gauge. You would have to have leaking injectors or something horrible to suddenly get 6MPG from a 4 cylinder...

she said today between 50 and 60 miles an hour that it would just suddenly kick up the RPMs and run real hard...like the whole v-tech thingy? Is there something that could cause this? along with the low gas milage thingy? The Gas gauge did eventually go back to normal after about 3 days. I'm thinking she's got water in the tank maybe? She likes to buy cheapo fuel....thanks
