i had mine die on me. i thought maybe i stalled it, but never felt it. i was sitting at a light, rev to 1500, start to let clutch out (maybe moved 6") when i saw my gauges peg out then die. car fired right back up, but the warning lights and fuel gauge seem to take a long time to return to normal.

although after that incident, it seems to run better. but ive got a 2.2. wondering if this is a problem across all the engines seeing as my mom had problems with hers (2.4) and my friend with his redline have had similar issues.

The idle surge doesnt just happen to you boys with SS Cobalts, my lowly LT does it too. I think the mass air flow sensor maybe dirty. As far as just shutting down, well it seems these Cobalts all have some little grimlins lurking inside them, and the only way to rid yourself of them is to set the car a blaze and stand by with a 12 gauge shot gun and blast the little turds as they run from the vehicle. Or you could just sell it like I plan to do and buy something else. Consumer reports follow their recommendations I will.

I had this happen to me too, but it was in the dead of winter coming back home from work. I was slowing down at a stop sign and my car died, only thing was the engine shut off. I put on my hazards and started her back up, she was fine after that. And then I did an oil change and gave her premium full synth oil.

lol, I have no idea what was wrong and I don't really wanna find out.
