Compound Advice

Hey guys, Looking to give the Balt a solid detail in the next couple weeks...All products will be applied by hand using a "hand jobber" with orange, white and black pads..

I have 2 different compounds at my disposal and not sure which one would show better results...CarPro Fixer or Megs Ulimate Compound? Does anyone having any experience using either by hand?

1) Wash
2) Clay using Meguiars Kit
3) Orange Pad - CarPro Fixer or Meguiars Ultimate Compound
4) White Pad - Sonax Nano Paint Cleaner
5) Black Pad - Sonax Polymer Netshield

Hand polishing wont get you anywhere.

Get a 7424xp
Orange pad = m205 meguiars
White pad = m105 meguiars
Then sealant. Then wax if you wish
Bye bye swirls

THIS. It's the easiest way to go. You can't mess up with the 7424xp either. It's like impossible..

I know most of my swirls can be removed by hand even if it may take a few applications...With good technique you can get really good results..

BTW if I were to use the Meguiars products you listed it would be 105 (heavy cut) then 205 (finishing polish)

Is 205 too harsh in most cases? Can you get by with 105?

105 cuts more than 205. Just depends on how bad your car is. If you have never used a swirl remover 105 would probably be better. If you are doing a touch up 3-4 months later 205 will work fine. You should follow 105 up with 205 though.

cause griots (like almost every compound) are meant to be used with a machine. By hand, you will never get a fraction of the results as with a good machine (not a walmart orbital)

people like the 7424' cause they're cheaper, but I actually like the griot's cause the PC orbitals will vibrate the **** out of your hands.

I was using the griots orbital. I think I'll drop down to a 5" pad and get 105 and 205 mequires and five them a try.

the smaller backing plate makes a world of difference, you wouldn't think it does, but it is a substantial amount.
