Why does the arm rest not fit the SS trim?

Does anyone know why the arm rest will not fit the SS/TC. GM sells one for the lower trim levels, but it does not say that it will work for the SS/TC.

As a follow up... Has anyone fitted one into an SS/TC?

the arm rest mod for my ss/sc was one of the best things i ever did.

I imagine it should work the same way for the ss/tc?

I don't see why not. Everything looks the same. I have not had the cover off to see but I would think that they are the same.

Quoted from another thread

1)make sure you have the following: 1-armrest storage compartment, 2-black 10mm screws, 4-grey 10mm screws, 1-part to attach the armrest piece to the body, 1-rear cup holder piece.

The armrest will fit into the green circled area, facing the frontward to the car.

2)Start by lifting off the rear cupholders, and the E-Brake pieces.

*Note the instructions that I got required you to take apart the whole center console, and since I'm lazy I only took those 2 pieces off. To possibly make easier take off the rest of the console.

3)Put the part to attach the armrest to the body into the required place, and screw in the 4 grey screws into the circled yellow areas.

4)"Snap" the armrest into place into the circled green areas, and screw in the 2 black screws into the circled red areas.

5)Begin putting your console back together, and replace the old rear cup holder with your new cup holders and what do you have? A Cobalt SS with an armrest and someones hairy ass legs in the shot.

BUT in the thread that I quoted the part number they list 17800082 is only $65.52 from www.GMpartsdirect.com

I can't find what the part is they listed in the thread it just says center console with cup holder. If you search the website for Cobalt accessories it lists the first part #'s I listed.
Can someone chime in on the last part number being that it is cheaper.

Also 2007 lists no console available

I thought about putting one in mine, but it just doesn't seem to fit right in the ss/tc....the arm rest rubs the seats on both sides and interferes with the hand brake....

Just a FYI. I had emailed GMPARTS.COM heres the reply.

NOTE that the part number is for ebony.

In order to process your request we need the VIN number from the vehicle the parts are requested for. The VIN number can be found on the driver's side dash visible from the outside of the vehicle through the windshield. The VIN number supplied tells us the options that came factory along with the engine size and transmission that were in the vehicle originally. Please resubmit your original question along with the VIN number from the vehicle that the parts to fit. Please keep in mind www.gmpartsdirect.com does not have the capability to tell if apart is interchangeable for different makes and models.

All parts are looked up manually per application and request. 17800082, has been superseded to part number 19157354

Does the arm rest fold up out of the way say if I was at the track or something and didnt want anything in my way? Or is it stuck there?

I put one in my '08, fits perfectly. I have no problem with it interfering with the shifter. The parking brake requires a little more effort but the arm rest can be swung up out of the way if needed.
