all the hoses will be done in black to make it more stealth, these are just mock ups using old parts laying around the shop as not to waste good hoses when we still are moving things around. It's more fun blowing the doors off big hp cars at the road track while looking "stock"

haha, hell yeah it is, especially when they walk up to you later and you roll down the window to release some nice cool Air-conditioned o2.

any progress on your intake manifold so far?

I already have it drawn up on how I am going to do it.
Just waiting on Bell to get me the core

the first edition will be somewhat spartan for testing purposes but once it is tested for efficiency I will then go into some form of casting. I found a company who does wonderful rapid prototyping who can then make something that looks as good as it performs.

nice, i can't wait to see it. i think you may have gather'd so far that that is a huge weak area for us, and seing what you do may further our progress on the same issue.

someone was supposed to get me some pictures of the current setup but I haven't seen any yet. Based on how your charger is sitting, I would imagine making one would be cake compared to fitting this in a MINI

yeah, lemme see if i can find some...

this thread has lots of info, and some pictures of the first truly modified IM
https://www.cobaltss.net/forums/show...anifold&page=4

this was one of the first real efforts by a vendor, and you can see how it went...
https://www.cobaltss.net/forums/2-0l-lsj-performance-tech-47/new-high-flow-lower-manifold-122199/

this is Rebels attempt, and to be honest, i think exactly what the car needs, if not something similar.

I disagree with that. That's actually a pretty good design. It's rather simple if you ask me.

agreed... it's not a bad design by nature
they still have good runner length
plenty of factors that go into manifold design length. Theories are always great but until you test it...... it's just an educated guess

Just like everything else... Couldn't have said it better myself.

i just hope it has the strength to hold up the blower + belt tension + engine movement. i'm thinking there may have to be a bracket up top somehow.

put a braket going from the bottom 2 the stock back mounting point...

the only problem i see with the design above is air flow. not that it cant flow air, but the way the air would flow. In the design above the top part of the cooling core the top of the core would not see the same amount of air flow as the bottom. Therefore the air moving across the bottom would be moving faster and not get the full effect of most possible heat transfer.....IMO the only way 2 do this would be 2 have the area pre blower perfectly straight and parallel 2 the core. If not any forum of bend will cause the air 2 not flow equally from top 2 bottom of the core. I think if the runners came out and upward with the core and blower mounted blow would give the most space and room for proper placement of all of the parts... something like this but an intake ish thing (i know its a turbo mani. just giving shape thought). I think if made properly it could be done without lowering the blower much it would just be upside down like tvsmini's

I'm shooting for 350whp+ with this one, so I went 3" on the exhaust and I will put up some pics of the custom built mufflers that we are making.

thanks for serving!

TVS Mini - wow - that's amazing work. You are a true craftsman and an artist, and I mean that. Your track pic hit me twice - your car is sweet, the car behind you (Arial Atom 2) is my favoritest thing in the whole wide world.

Following this thread because the "I need more power" bug is nagging at me again, and I'm torn between going turbo or getting the Harrop. There are things I like about both, but the biggest issue I have with the blower route is $$. Turbos are cheap - for the price of the TVS blower alone, I could convert to turbo and pay for supporting mods, lol. A badass turbo - GT30 ceramic/ballbearing kinda thing - can be had for under $1500 new. BUT - I like having the blower. And a bigger one would be better.

Either way, I'll likely be going 2.4. Why all this talk about tuning the LE5, when EcoTec's are modular? Drop in the LE5 crank, get srtonger rods and lower compression slugs, attach (hopefully a worked over) LSJ head - bang, you're done. Only reason I even say go to the trouble to chnge internals rather than just lay in an LE5 shortblock is 'cuz if I want to upgrade the internals anyway, so it all has to come apart anyway.

Rambling now. I may get over this idea before it happens - but I may not. We'll see. Right now I'm more focused on getting custom fenders made to shove real rubber under this thing, lol.

Who was talking about teh 10.5 slicks not breaking loose? WTF man - I have destroyed a set of 10.5's off the line with 365 hp/360 lb ft, lol. In a car with about the same gearing as these, a turbo built 2.4 TwinCam. 2.3 second 60' on those slicks with a 4400 RPM launch, LOL. Hint for launching TVS equiped cars without monster slicks (hell, maybe with them): cars with sub-10lb per hp ratios and a lot of torque stock tend to go 55 to 65 mph in first gear. In other words, launch from second. Finally convinced my freind in his 270 hp 310 lb-ft Probe to try this, he dropped almost 4/10ths the first time he tried it. Less wheelspin, one less shift. If you have the power, do it.

-k- I'm done now...

thanks for the kind words!

I hope to have the car ready to fire up by next weekend if all goes well
Radiator will be here today and intercooler core tomorrow. W2A is still a work in progress, the first will be a rough hand fab, if all goes well it will get "prettied" up and cast

It was fun passing the aerial atom, great cars but most of the owners are not great drivers. LOL

From what I hear they are pretty tricky to drive. Still, the "form follows function" guy in me just drools over that thing. I have dozens of pics, and use one as my desktop image at work. And DP's with the Hartley H1 V8... Spring Mountain race track in Pharump has 2 Ariel 245's available for rent, $1500 a day IIRC. Haven't done it yet 'cuz that's $$ that could (and does) go to the Ion project and other things I have in the fire, but man - I might convince myself it'd be money well spent sometime soon, lol. Of course, it's also miney that could be saveed TOWARD an Atom, so...

Regarding your passing interest in the CObalt (and therefor, whether you know it or not, the Saturn Ion Redline) - A national-level SCCA driver who ran an MCS for a long while took a spin in my Ion at an autocross event. He LOVED the car. It was 100% stock, rolling on 245/40/17 Hoosier 'S04 DOT slicks for the event. His reactions were - well, I wish I had them on camera, lol. Especially at the end of the day when he and I and a few other drivers were talking, he was raving about the car, and I said "So the electric power steering didn't bother you?". His reaction was HILARIOUS - his jaw literally dropped, and he shook his head and said "Wha-wha-whaaat?!?! This thing has EPS?!" "Yeah, the magazines all bitch about it, but I honestly think if nobody told them it had it they wouldn't know to complain." He replied - jaw still down and eyes still wide - "They're full of ****. I just raced this thing all day on a feakin' autocross course and never suspected it wasn't a well tuned traditional rack. In fact, I'm not sure I believe you. Pop the hood again..." The other guys were in stitches at his expression and reaction, it was great.
