Want launch control for your LSJ? (no boxes or wiring required)

Several people have asked us to investigate whether we could add "no lift shift" and "launch control" features the LNF cars have to L61/LAP, LE5 and LSJ cars.

We have this working on my '08 Corvette. With an ECM flash only, launch control lets me put the clutch in and put the pedal to the floor and it holds the RPM at 3000, and no lift shift allows me to go through the gears without ever taking my foot off the gas.

We are very close to making this work on the LE5 cars also, since it shares a similar ECM to the Corvette and we've proven at the very least the 2007 model year shares the same clutch pedal position switch setup as the Corvette. I suspect 2006 and up will work.

2005-2006 L61/LAP and LSJ cars are in a different boat, however. From what I can tell they only use one clutch pedal position switch, near the floor. This would prevent us from implementing no lift shift, but we could still do launch control.

Would LSJ car owners be interested in launch control? If so, what would be an appropriate launch RPM?

so, will it interfere with our current tune if you were to flash the ECU for it?

Adding NLS and LC to the ECM itself sounds very tempting.

If I jumped on this, and then got tuned using HP Tuners, would it overwrite your changes?

It would require an entire reflash of the ECM to make it work.

For people ordering custom tunes from us, its no big deal, we can do that as part of the ECM programming process.

For people that already have a tune from elsewhere but want to add the feature it's a little more complicated. We could send our tuner out, have you fully reprogram the ECM with it, then your tuner could read back the ECM, copy over your custom tune, and flash it again, and you'd be good to go.

Nope, this would work fine.

Interesting. So is this essentially a tweaked OS, somewhat like GM Stage 3?

If we wanted to change the launch rpm at a later date, what would it require?

I'm not entirely acquainted with the way you guys modify the ECU so my thinking might be a little off, but would it be possible to add a notification to the DIC when LC is enabled?

Yes it would be a tweaked OS.

We might be able to find a way to repurpose another table in the ECM so you could use commercially available tuning software to change the launch RPM.

So if we didnt needa complete tune, we would be able to just pay for the launch control?

Um if the 2.4L cars and 2.2L cars use the same trans and everything then why would it have different setup? I understand the ECU is different, but I wouldn't think the clutch position sensor would be different.

I think the 2007+ 2.2 might have two switches, also (my manuals only go up to 2005). I have not confirmed it yet, though. If it does, then both NLS and LC can be implemented.

Launch control comes in handy when you have tires that can actually grip the road. I too have the WOT box, and I've completely quit using the Launch control portion basically because I can do much better from a dig without it. NLS, on the other hand, is amazing. I use it every chance I get.

I'll try it again once I get some drag radials or something, but until then, I don't use it.

Kudo's to Vince for workin on this though. It's a great idea. If installing the WOT box was as easy as simply reflashing the computer then it woulda saved me a lot of head ache.

For me its not about letting the computer launch for me. I just love gadgets.

Haha, wasn't my idea, a BUNCH of non-LNF Cobalt owners asked me to make this work. Lol

the problem in the lsj is traction... for me, more than half throttle is just smoking the tires. so dumping the clutch at 3k to 35k is just going to give a smoke show. lower boost and slicks will take care of that, but that opens up a whole new can or worms.

nls is great for turbo cars, and in theory it would be quicker shifts, but with a sc car that doesn't lose boost like a turbo, your foot is only off the gas for as long as your foot is on the clutch. if you're a good driver.

do we have any proven results from nls on a sc car?

it's not necessarily just for boost reasons.. part of it is NLS helps with engine wear and tranny wear due to cutting timing and such for a split second so that way everything meshes smoother when you shift without lifting your foot

and while yes in a turbo car ist the best application the ss/tc's don't have a big enough turbo stock that respool time is a huge issue
