Well, technically, I'm not that close. I live in Great Bend, and I go to Salina to autocross. I've just had my Cobalt out to autocross once, but will be in Salina tomorrow. for another.

Salina Autocross, maybe Ft Riley?
Tomorrow, 9/13, there is an autocross at Salina. After the event, we will talk about the possibility of running an autocross on base. Come see how a stock Cobalt SS competes, with a mediocre driver, or sign up and compete yourself! For more information, see the web site at http://www.salinascca.org/
There is a possibility of running an autocross at the base, maybe more next year, and we will discuss at the SCCA meeting after the event. The more Ft. Riley guys there, the better our chances of getting it going!

Autocross at Marshall Field for SCCA & military
There is an autocross on the helipad at Marshall Field Nov. 22. I plan to bring the Corvette (maybe somebody will buy it!), but I have been doing well in the Cobalt. It will turn, as well as go straight! I have won the STX class series in Salina and Wichita, despite changing from the Corvette (different class) to the Cobalt midyear. There is a rumor that the army will pay all military entry fees. See the Salina SCCA website for more info: http://www.salinascca.org/

Ft. Riley Autocross
This event is especially for active military, and many will be first timers. About half will be experienced SCCA members, and we will give rides. Just preregister on the Salina website, air your tires up (maybe 45 front, 50 rear for the stock Contis), empty the trunk and come by. The event will probably fill up via preregistration, so sign up early. We will be setting up the course early Saturday afternoon, do registration, and tech your car. Tech inspection is just a safety inspection. When the course is ready, it will be available for course walks. Try to walk the course with an experienced autocrosser for tips. I'll be there Saturday & Sunday, look for an old fart with a white beard, there won't be many that fit that description.
Cobalt SS/TCs can run in the following classes:
D Stock - very limited mods, but some may come with DOT race tires.
STX - Street tires, but limited mods
STO4 - This is a class for any street legal 4 cylinder with street tires.
Cobalts SS/SC can run in G Stock, ST, or STO4.
The event will be Sunday, and experienced drivers will give rides, so you can understand the course better. Autocross is not a high speed event, but it will give you an adrenaliine rush without the danger of street racing!
I'll look for you this weekend!
