Reverse?

So we all know that the supercharged engines need the intake bypass valve so they work in reverse. Otherwise the supercharger would just suck all the air out of the cylinder. So knowing that, how does the turbocharged version work in reverse? The engine is trying to suck air backwards, yet the turbo wants to spin forward so I don't see how it works. Is there some sort of exhausting intake bypass valve on the turbo version? Also, if it does have the valve, does that also mean that it can make boost in reverse? Like how much boost? Like 5 psi or does it go over 20?

Can anyone help me sort this out?

Are you trying to say that when a car is in reverse the motor spins in the other way in order to get the car to go backwards?

I'm pretty sure that is what he is trying to say.

Epic thread for sure!

I can help... Never touch a wrench!

When you go in reverse, your engine does not reverse rotation, nor does the supercharger, and i don't even know how it would be possible for the engine to reverse the rotation of the turbo. When you go into reverse the transmission is in a different gear which enables you to move the car backwards.

And the bypass valve, has nothing to do with reverse. It is when the throttle body closes, the compressor(whatever it maybe i.e. supercharger or turbo) still compresses air, yet since the throttle body is closed it has no where to go. So instead of having all that air pressure build and mess up your TB or blow something up, the bypass valve allows the air out of the intake track and puts it before the compressor so it can be reused.

That is a really good website for understanding the extreme basics of how stuff on cars works. Read it, it will help so you don't have god knows how many people yell at you for making stupid posts.
