My Cobalt got macked!

So Saturday night (after a fun dyno day at Evolotion Performance), I went to go see Less Than Jake at the Stone Pony in Asbury Park NJ. Great show, surprised to see that my car wasn't stolen, lol. So I'm trying to get on the main road to get out to rt 18 and I come to a stop sign. Cars coming....keep looking (and my gf looks too because she gets nervous), things look clear (and its a 25mph so cars should be visible if near by). So I go across and out of nowhere......BWAM!!!

I get t-boned on my passenger side. Guy driving a 3rd gen camaro hit my car EXACTLY where my gf was sitting. She was freaking out, the side-curtain airbag deployed (which may have saved her life). She was ok, but just freaking out about the accident. Some lady who saw the whole thing called the cops/ambulance. The retard that hit me didnt even speak english, so I couldn't get any info from him, but the police said they got it all on the police report. Told the cops what happened, the one guy sided with me, but said legally he had to give me the careless driving ticket because the other driver had the right of way because I had a stop sign. After it was all said and done, nobody was injured (thank god), and the car was driveable. I drove it 30 miles to my house at 55-60mph without any problems. The car is now just sitting at my dad's house waiting for the adjuster to come look at it. Now I get to drive a new Hyundai Sonata for a rental car until its fixed.

That will buff out. Honestly. That can be fixed in about 2-3 weeks. Just in time for spring.

That sucks. The important thing is, nobody got hurt, and the accident itself could have been a lot worse (not that it isn't bad).

Good question, seems like the cobalt overall holds up pretty good to me but again that depends on the speed of impact.

That sux real bad. Thank god you guys are ok. I just got into an accident last week from my stupidity. No one else was involved. It was just me. I hit a curb on the highway and spun out. There's pictures of my car in the gallery.

It sux when the person that hit you can't even speak english. He didn't get one ticket??

Most likely not. I got in an accident about 9 months ago where the guy was flying down the road and I was trying to go straight across, he was speeding at dusk without his lights on and in the rain, so I tried to go across the street (i had a stop sign and it looked clear)... he clipped my back right end, messed up the back right door, back wheel, bumper, control arm... and it was apparently my fault because I had the stop sign. This guy didn't really speak english either. No ticket for him.

not sure about you, but in NJ if you are going across an intersection and the guy hits your car on the rear part of your car its his fault no matter what. however, he hit me right smack in the middle so its my fault

i was in a 25mph zone, but he definately was going faster than 25 considered i didn't see himat all coming down the street and i had pretty good visibility. my guess was closer to 40mph. but the car definately holds up in an accident. you can see by the damage that the car was hit pretty hard, but you can see where the reinforcements held the car in tact to protect the passenger. the side curtain airbag helped too. prevented the passenger from hitting her head on the glass and breaking it, or if it broke would have prevented the glass from hitting her. but like you guys said, i'm just happy everyone is ok...mildy upset about the car, but it will be fixed. i'm just worried that its going to take forever because the car is new and parts aren't readily available.

Here in Missouri... if you get hit in the back end or the sides it is the other drivers fault no matter what... Unless witnesses state you were being stupid.... But you don't live here don't know the laws where your from!

i almost got hit the other day. pulling out of school onto Big Bend (30 mph speed limit) I looked both ways and judged distances. Thought I had enough room to move out (left turn) on the street. Half way out into the road I notice this red car nose diving and honking. I saw the car before I pulled out and would have had plenty of time if the damn bitch wasnt going 50 mph. i still feel stupid about it though.

Anyways, glad to see the airbags worked in all. I hope the car comes out all spiff.

Sorry to hear that bro. Same thing happened to my girlfriend back in December. Some jerk-off switched lanes a floored it to make the yellow and T-boned her brand new 325Ci on the passanger side. Off duty cop wittness the whole thing and they gave that guy a ticket. Thank God she lived, but her poor Beemer was totalled.

My cobalt got hit only 5 days old....500 miles on it. I was so pissed. Some old lady came out of a Walmart parking lot and drove right into my driver side door. $6000 in damage and I was without my brand new.....5 day old....500 miles.....cobalt for about 5 weeks. It was obvisiously her fault so I didn't have to pay a thing.

The replacement doors are so hard to find......Well at least back in June 2005 they were.
I had to drive a damn Ford Taurus, I fcking hated that car.

It is always your fault because they hadd the right of way, but it shouldn't be if you could prove they were speeding, obviously they couldn't control their vehicle. I think both of you played equal roles in the accident.
