K04 Turbo upgrade

I have been looking around for awhile for a straight bolt up turbo and have really came across nothing until today. I and a few others have wanted a upgrade with out getting into an entire turbo kit and over on the solstice forums they are doing just so. A guy with the RL] is doing some work on this turbo with a bigger wheel upgrade for $830. Now this turbo has not been completely tested yet but is close and saying that turn around would be about 2 days. I sat back and read all 13 pages today and every thing sounds promising. He says the turbo now makes power through 7400rmp and is said you can do this on stock valve train. So with this, no more 6300rpm power stoppers were the power just falls and the turbo is out of breath. He is working on some surging issues but he says it only effect cars with stock exhaust components.

Here is a link to the thread for those that what to look deeper into it: Click Here

My nest question is- is there anything else? I have done countless searches on here and other parts of the web and cam up empty handed. I think we all should gather our info and put it into one thread and try to get the mods to sticky it. I am just looking for something to bolt to the stock mani and produce more power and more power longer than the stock turbo. As of now I dont care to upgrade the stock components such as piping, IC, and mani. For now bolt on and go, and this is not saying that I never will upgrade that stuff in the future, just not at this time. I would like to push the stock components to there extreme before dumping them. After the turbo I may start looking for a ported exhaust mani.

If anyone has more info, other options, or just more input on things you would like to see just chime in.

Same guy I'm taking my car to so that he can use it as a prototype to build his Solstice/Sky Turbo Swap kit for our Balts. He is a friend of mine and I tried getting him to sign up and become a vendor but he's having some technical difficulties. He was going to tell all about this upgrade as well.

Just ignore him like most people do.

Anyway, I am also thinking about going with the upgraded OEM turbo or one of the big turbo kits that is coming soon for this car. I have a goal of high 11's on drag radials and I am not sure if I could just use the upgraded OEM turbo and spray my way into the 11's or if I need a larger turbo. I think it depends on how the new GM stage kit will affect the boost limit that the ECU now has. If we can throw a few sensors in and change a few settings in the ECU and have over 23lbs of boost, I think the upgraded OEM turbo with nitrous would do well for me. However, if the GM stage tune is locked or it is hard to use the new sensors with HP Tuners, then the bigger turbo with lower boost pressure will be the only way to go.

The guys at Protege Garage have been rebuilding and clipping the KO4 for the Mazdaspeed guys for $200 less than BTF. I would call PG to see if they could rebuild our turbo or BTF should lower price. For a little more coin you could get a dbb 50 trim less a manifold though.

Will do

If they don't release the stg kits I hope they at least release the sensors for us to purchase separate.

Do these guys machine the housing for a bigger wheel(our stock turbo)? If so we should look into doing something with them and take the price down a little. Thats IF we can get the same product I would like to steer clear of clipping the turbo if at possible. I know BTF mentioned clipping to get rid of the serge above 18 psi on stock cars but I hope he can find away around it. Once the BTF turbo is dyno's we will have allot more info on this.

I just wanted to see of he had any pics of each wheel and the housing to compare. I hope the surging is taken car of. See if he is still thinking of clipping the wheel to get rid of it. I want to get the most power out of this turbo as possible.

with the way our MAP is set up right now, you can get 375whp with the compressor upgrade...once GM releases the new sensors to remove the 255kpa limit (22.5 PSI) then you will see 400whp easy...he told me about the surge problem and I think it also has to do with the sensors limiting boost but I will double check with him again

Are you serious about those numbers? Is that with the upgraded turbo only or is that with all the bolt-ons as well? If I could get 400whp with just the turbo upgrade I would go with that and just spray if I need more.

those were the numbers he gave me...I know he said right now its 375hp and that once we get our hands on the new sensors it will be 400hp easy

says it will support 40+ lbs/min...right now I think the best I have seen people talking about with tunes is 32 lbs/min, so just imagine what 8+ lbs/min will produce...and the best part...YOU STILL LOOK STOCK

Well I would let the dyno do the talking, if we over estimate the numbers there are going to be ALLOT of disappointed people out there. I would also like to see the price come down a little.

you will have to talk to him about the price but remember, he has to take apart the turbo, replace the wheel and CNC a bigger inducer

08blackSS/TC, when you say 375hp do you mean at the crank? I just can't believe 375hp at the wheels! It just seems too good to be true. Although, 8 lbs/min is a good increase so maybe it could happen!
