Track day mussings.

Well my wife "lent" me her SS for track day last weekend at Mosport . First time on track with a front drive car in about 20 years, and it took me a few sessions to get the knack of not spinning the inside front comming out of the turns. Alot more throttle finness required than the big rear drive that I'm used to.
Anyway, I'm very impressed with the way the car performed over the course of the day.
It stayed real consistent lap after lap with no brake fade to speak of, very predictable in hard turn ins, no tail end wiggles, no drama. Well balanced in the in the big sweepers with maybe just a bit of a push at the limit, but again no drama. Fairly tight track so the car had more than enough power, mostly 2nd and 3rd gear.
My only complaint was not being held in the seat well enough. Slippery leather seats and non-locking seat belts made for a good workout tryind to stay put. Will have to work on a better harness for next time.
I took her,( my wife), out for a few laps and then explained to her how we could make it work even better . So , she says she'll go for the strut tower brace and sway bars to go with the sportlines she has. Some track day stickies would be nice. Then she's going to take the track school so she can drive too.

Ahh, I'm jealous. That looks like so much fun. Does taking your car to the track every now and then put a lot of stress on the car or wear out anything excessivley?

If you know how to drive properly, no, it really shouldn't. Especially in cars that are built for performance. I took the SS/SC out on the track about 2 months ago and it was fine. In fact the engine seemed to enjoy it. It's not like drag racing where you're relying on your engine to get you down the track. You very rarely take the car to redline and on some tracks, it's just a 2-gear track. The one I went to was 3rd and 4th, that was it. If you've got a track with a few long straights into REALLY tight corners, then maybe you'd add in 2nd gear, but for the most part you use very few gears.

The majority of the wear is on the brakes, the suspension, and the tires. If you're REALLY bad at shifting, you might put some strain on the tranny too.
