iPhone Suggestion..??
Hey guys,
So, to make a very long story short, I'm on my second iPhone. My first I got new. 8gb black 3G. Traded it later for a Blackberry Bold. Then two days later, traded the Bold for another iPhone. The new one is a 16gb white 3G. The 16gb is a bit more "used" than my 8gb was in terms of wear, etc. But at that time, I didn't care. Well, now it's getting to me. Aside from the nicks on the back that I don't care about, there's two main problems.. 1) The ringer silent switch on the side doesn't put the phone into silent mode. It's tight and not flimsy, but it just doesn't switch it when you switch it down to silent. 2) All of a sudden, my internal speaker at the bottom of the phone stopped working. And when it does work, it's distorted. But I have to hit the phone several times to get it to work even at all. Thus, my phone only vibrates when someone texts or calls, etc. No other noises. It's driving me insane. The silent switch never worked since I got the phone, and the speaker suddenly went out overnight two nights ago.. I did nothing to make it happen. I just got up and it wasn't doing anything. Now, I might not be an expert, but I believe this phone was already opened up. The one bottom screw is a tad off set. Should I try to DIY open it up and see if anything is just loose in there? If there is, then I can replace them with working parts.. I can also replace the back plate at the same time. I like the white, but it's always dirty and scuffed. They sell lots of colors online.. Regardless, do you think I should try to open it up and see what I see or just buy another one off of Craigslist in better shape and sell mine? I don't want to totally fuck this phone up by opening it. I did los of DIY work on my old Blackberry World phone (changing keys, covers, etc) but since this is fully touch screen, it could get ugly. Opinions? Help!! EDIT: Must also mention that I have already tried to turn the phone off and on about 30 times as well as try the damp and dry Q-Tip method. All to no avail.

WTF, why did you trade that like 87 times?
You got ripped for getting what you did. Unless it was the bold 9700?? |

87 times? lol
I said it was the Bold? It was the newest one. The reason I traded for the Bold was because it was 2 weeks old, mint, and I wanted to try to go back to a Blackberry again. But I didn't like it as much as the iPhone, so I went back. I actually thought I did pretty good by ending up with a 16gb. But it doesn't much help me now that I have no sound..

You traded it for a phone worth about $200-300. There are two bolds - I think the 9700 is T-Mobile right now, but it's going to AT&T soon? (Regardless, it could have been unlocked) New OldANYWAYS! You then proceeded to trade this assumed $200-$300 phone for an iPhone 16GB 3G...which in the state you mentioned, can't be worth much more than the NEW 8GB You purchased...my point being; a BRAND NEW 16GB 3GS is $200. You didn't do the best trading on your part, my advice is hope for someone to be a sucker, buy it, try and get your moneys worth back and somehow get yourself a better iPhone. Opening that will only ruin your chances of being able to pawn that one off. As for the kid who got your Bold, hope he gets buyers remorse otherwise he made off like a bandit. |

well i know that the iphones speakers you need to be careful not to blow they aren't the same as the itouches. i first would take it to at&t and see if they will do anything but considering it was already 'opened' you think they may turn you away.. probably should have said something about how it looked when you got it...

But no, it's not that the phone looked "shoddily" put together, but it's one of those deals that after you get back home and look it over real good you go "hmmmmmm". It was the first really cold day we had, and we did it in a parking lot. I wasn't too concerned more than the fact that it worked overall. And again, at that time the only issue was the ringer switch. The speaker happened a few days ago. Overnight. While I was sleeping. It worked fine before that. I woke up and it's been off and on since. That's the weird part. And when it does work, it's glitchy and shitty sounding. Regardless, I have a local guy who wants to buy it as-is, and I will likewise get another one. We'll see when it goes down..
