How To Install An Armrset
1)make sure you have the following: 1-armrest storage compartment, 2-black 10mm screws, 4-grey 10mm screws, 1-part to attach the armrest piece to the body, 1-rear cup holder piece.
The armrest will fit into the green circled area, facing the frontward to the car.
2)Start by lifting off the rear cupholders, and the E-Brake pieces.
*Note the instructions that I got required you to take apart the whole center console, and since I'm lazy I only took those 2 pieces off. To possibly make easier take off the rest of the console.
3)Put the part to attach the armrest to the body into the required place, and screw in the 4 grey screws into the circled yellow areas.
4)"Snap" the armrest into place into the circled green areas, and screw in the 2 black screws into the circled red areas.
5)Begin putting your console back together, and replace the old rear cup holder with your new cup holders and what do you have? A Cobalt SS with an armrest and someones hairy ass legs in the shot.
I still dont understand why GM didnt install this part in SS. It doesn't interfer with shifting at all. But it sure is nice having it.

It does interfer with the e-brake a little bit, but you still can grab it and pull it down without putting the armrest up. Shifting, no problem cause its far away from the shifter.

That's the only thing that I really miss from my alero, the center console storage......

The pic under the installation pics is the e-brake most ofthe the way up.
From gmpartsdirect.com it said $75.00/$85.00? after shipping, but when I got it a shipping bill for it was only 71.00.

For all...Check which part number you need here Armrest Part Numbers . Now you can either pay $90.00 here or take that part number and go to www.gmpartsdirect.com/ and get it for less. From GM Parts Direct it took about 2-3 weeks for me to recieve the part, but I spent a total of $70.95 for it.

I just installed my arm rest. Not terribly hard, however I broke the stupid clip on the e brake handle and now it is kinda sloppy. I have to say I can see why they left the arm rest off. It's a bit better for the driver without it and you need to fold it up to put on the ebrake. However you gain some extra storage space so it's not all bad.
But my passenger said she would like one and well you know how that goes.
The lady gets what she wants.
