Car Rolls in Gear on Hills

Car Rolls in Gear on Hills

heres the deal I have a 2006 Cobalt LT with Automatic Transmission. If I stop on a hill when I let off the brake my car starts to roll backwards or forwards like im in neutral. Has anyone else noticed this with their cobalt?

sounds normal to me. all my autos ive had if the hill was steep enough would rool backwards. if its slitly uphill it wouldnt move and flat moves foward.

I understand that. I have had about 5 cars with auto and never have seen it roll like this. At some point it usually would catch the gear and stop. Now I havent just let it roll but It seems like it has some play in it

Even with an auto, you should be pulling on your e-brake when parked. The cables won`t seize up eventually and that parking pin sure takes a beating when the car rolls back or forward and hits it. Sometimes those are just plastic pins too...I wouldn`t trust it to keep my car uphill.

Im not talking about when parked im talking about when at a light. I let go of the brake before I hit the gas and the car starts to roll

Yeah man... it happens... it's totally normal.... you're probably used to driving vehicles with a larger amount of torque... or taller gears... just get used to it.

cool cool, yea im use to bigger cars.. My mustang didnt do that, and my ram sure as hell didnt do it.

Actually, since new parking brake cables are no longer run through metal tubing, they are not likely to seize up anyway. They are now run through a plastic liner inside the black sheathing. It would be hard to find a cable that would seize nowadays.

What about the pivots in the rear drums? That`s usually what seizes...

I dont know about all that stuff but I actually let it roll back and it does catch after a second. Guess I was being apranoid.

Maybe thats jsut a feature I ddint get.....I dont remember it being on the list of feature for mine. I got a LT so who knows.

Anyone Got a Sivler Front Bumper Cover????? I need one. Mine is busted

Hill assist is for manual transmissions, and the cobalt doesn`t have it. It applies the brakes for you when you push the clutch in taking off on a hill so you dont roll back. Usually for people that can`t drive stick.
