HOW-TO: Mod 2.2/2.4 AirBox

Allow me first to mention that this is NOT my original Idea. I stole what penquinpie and others had done and hopefully made it a little easier to grasp.

FIRST

Get a SPARE airbox top. Don't use your only one. You'll need it for service visits and just in case you mess up.

SECOND

Cut the box top and sides off. the idea is to leave the tube the MAF goes into and a little lip to keep the filter from slipping off.

THIRD

Attach a filter. I used a 3.5 inch AEM DryFlow. a 3.0 inch WILL fit... if you CRAM it on.

THATS IT. these guys aren't kidding when they say it's easy to do. now, watch the Video.

Cone Filter install - YouTube

sorry for the crap quality, i'm working on a better version

actually, pulled it right back off. i only did it to see how it could be done. with as much as it is hot and humid in this part of florida, engine compartment air is way too warm.. sounded pretty wicked, but my engine temp went up like 4 degrees... at night.

well, i plan to do a CAI or the GMPP intake. depending on what feels like a good idea at the time. anything SRI just doesn't work whent he average temp is over 90 degrees.

that's kinda the plan, or the GMPP which still uses most of the factory plumbing... kinda like a "rich mans airbox mod" i actually posted the modded box and filter on the classifieds. if i can get the cost of the filter back, i'm happy. it's a loss, but i was really curious how it would sound.

very nice write up!

i do however feel the "sluggishness" of the engine during a hot day....so maybe ill leave it till its winter and put it back on

i like the fact that its quiet unless you nail the gas (at least for auto tranny) :P
